Well, my surgery is getting closer and we have a nasty storm that past with another on top of us now. I went out in between the storms to get my trail cam so when the river comes back up it does not claim my camera! I was walking in and the rain started. I got to within about 90 yards of my stand and camera when I saw a body on the road. I still have standing corn in the field and I stepped into the edge. Here walked a nice big 9 pointer, I think, right at me. He got to within about 40 yards and saw me. Needless to say I did not take my bow because I wanted to get in and out with my camera. LEASON LEARNED-never go in the woods without your bow during season! He took off running and went by my ladderstand and my trail camera. My camera took a picture at 8:13 am but he was to fast and camera did not get him. I got my picture taken at 8:17 am. I hope that he will come back since I was not in stand and he thinks I was just walking. There is a nature park accross the street from where I hunt that people walk so they are used to walkers. That is a plus! I noticed some new buck sign while I was there. I have three rubs and a scrape on the edge of the timber. Not much sign by my stand. I might have to sit on the edge due to the river comeing back up. I have my surgery on Tuesday so I will be laid up for a bit. As soon as I feel comfy with my brace it is GAME ON again! Telling me I can not hunt is like telling me your going to take my kids! THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! LOL Good luck all and I will be watching our team while I am down. I will be back out and you can count on that! Here is one of the pics my camera did get.You can see the river in the pics and it is up just a tad already!

If you want to see a big buck, just leave your gun/bow in the truck I say, it always works out that way. I hope you knock one down before your surgery. I dont know if i'll go or not today, it's 80 degrees and windy as heck. The front doesn't move through till sat night. I put my cam back out this morning and built a ground blind (I hate ground blinds, but no trees good for my food plot without a chainsaw, lol). Maybe I'll go hunt the ground blind and try to get a whack at the wide 8, or maybe I'll go back to the lease and see what's going on, but this weather is almost ready to spawn a tornado.

I did go yesterday, even though we had tornado warnings in the area, lol. I saw one doe about 40 yards feeding in early when all of the sudden the bottom dropped out. I got down early absolutely soaked. I should have gone this morning, but I got home late, and didnt want to dig out more dry gear this morning.

Dang SC, you didnt tell me you were hunting in a park! :p

That is a lot of rain. I went out yesterday and had 4 does slip into my plot, I had a good shot at one, but it was getting late, and I needed to get to my parent's for dinner, and pick up the kids from a hay ride at church. Going to try to go this afternoon and see what happens.

This park is down the street from where I live in town! LOL NO DEER! but if there was you never know about me! I am going to go sit on edge of timber on the hill to see if I can get one tonight so I will press my luck and you never know! I saw that buck walking in the other day so it could happen again! Good luck Red!

Well the past couple weekends I have been taking the wife huntin in my good spots in the mountains.... Seen several nice bucks, she shot and missed 2 of em and finally she connected on a really nice buck that was broke up from fightin... Ill post pics when I can.... I took a doe out while we were at it.....

I went sunday mornin with my bow and had a stud come through at 45 yds in some brush.... He was about 150 inches.... I found a better tree to get in that is closer to where some trails come together....

I also stuck my cam out on a big trail while we were in the mountains.... Hopefully we'll get some pics of some bucks and get on em before gun season rolls around....

Well, now I have other news. The nurse for my doctor called today and they had to cancell tomorrows surgery. They are not sure when they will schedule now and could be a couple weeks. It really sucks because now it will mess up my plans for shotgun season but I can bow hunt a little longer. The river is most of the way back down but still up a little. I will be going out tomorrow to see what happens but you never know!

Basic 8 with two kickers at the base of the left antler.

Arrived at the stand at 6am to find my pull rope for my bow had been broken by a fallen limb. Luckily the stand is only about 10 feet high so I was able to climb the ladder with bow in hand. Hate doing that but didn't have a choice if I wanted to hunt this stand. Get to the top to find a huge branch that had fallen with the last wind storm on top of my stand. Walk back down and put bow on the ground and then climb back up to remove the branch off the stand. Deer blow behind me--figured the morning hunt was history. Finally get the large branch off and to the ground without making too much noise. Climb back down and get the bow--back in the stand. Attach harness to tree and screw in bow holder to tree. I finally get arrow knocked and I'm sweating from all the work. I decide I better respray myself with scent killer as the light wind was variable with one second being in my face and the next on my neck. Finally at 6:20 I'm ready to hunt and LST is 6:25. I'm hunting a little plot I made deep in the woods right at the property line of my property. My longest shot on this stand is 27 yards. The bad part is when a deer shows up you better be ready as you can't see them arriving due to thick cover. At 6:55 the buck shows up to my left. I don't have a shooting lane but fortunately the buck starts walking to my right. He is slowly walking and at 15 yards I give a little "bleat" to stop him and let arrow fly. Shot hits perfect broadside double lung. Buck kicks and takes in the trees. I gave him 40 minutes and followed a beautiful blood trail about 70 yards to find this:

Way to go Todd! I hope to get another down this weekend. First 2 weekends I saw nothing but small 8's and such, last 2 I see nothing but does and just cant get a shot. I'd love to knock down one like that and get some points on the board! All my trail cam pics tell me I need the rut to start to get these boys out in daylight! Congrats again bud!

Got my trail cam out this morning. The wide 8 is still hanging around, but still night pics only. I'm not even going to hunt down there till the rut gets underway. Will go back to the camp this afternoon and set the cam out and try to do a little sticking while I'm there. I've been busted by does on my last couple of trips, hopefully the wind wont be swirling this afternoon.

Well, went out last night and this morning with no deer seen. I need the standing corn to come down BAD! I did go for a ride the other day with my daughter to spot and here is what we saw. One buck is in a fenced in area that is owned by the City Water Company but the deer come out every so often but not much because they know they are safe. Here he is!

Atta boy....

Im still lookin also.... I been taking the wife the past couple times I have been out..... long story short, She missed 2 really nice bucks with the ML and finally connected with this old brute on the last weekend.... He was broke up from fighting as you can see.... but she was really happy with taking him.... and I was really happy to have been with her when she took him also.....

The day after she took him I went and set a diff spot where I knew a big buck had been cruising...... I got in the stand a touch after daylight and got all setup..... I looked up at 830 and seen a straight stud coming in to my right he was just on the trail over from the one I was setting on..... he looked to be a 10 point that was atleast 20" wide had real heavy horns and had good tine length...... he was atleast a 150" deer, he got within about 42 yds and I just couldnt make the shot happen with the brush and vines in the way..... I tried gruntin and snort wheezin and I just couldnt get him to come any closer...... But im hoping he'll be back for a little taste of a razor sharp slicktrick..... :bat:

Great pics guys! I'm snakebit! I had 5 does and a cowhorn spike behind me all afternoon yesterday. Finally one fed in range and I picked out an open hole in the water oak i was in and drew back. I'm rotated in my stand, standing up, looking straight backwards. She never slowed down as she crossed the hole. Now I gotta spin around and try to catch her coming around to my left. I let the bow down and turned slowly, but no deer coming to my left, I guess she heard me or saw me, she was really close, finally she blew and they all left. I would have had a shot if I had never turned around, but I was running out of daylight fast. Oh well, we'll see how next trip goes.

I think for the first time all year, I saw jack squat today. Deer really slowed down around here, maybe the moon, maybe the weather, but everyone I talk to is slow.

Next weekend starts youth season for a week, then it's wide open. I'll have the kids out a lot, but will keep my bow in the truck just in case i get the chance to slip off alone. Maybe will get one more bowhunt in on Friday afternoon before season changes.

Time to get the big guns out tomorrow for a little practice session with the kids. I need some more 300 WBY ammo, but crap that stuff has gone to over 60 bucks a box! Oh well, I think last year was the first year in a long time I didnt even kill a deer with it, just one big bobcat one day. Generally either have the kids and the .243 or I will take my bow or maybe the 45-70
