CampRAGS
Yesterday we lucked out here in southern NY, (Dutchess county). The weather was ok, rain held out all day even saw the sun for a few minuets. For me it was great day to be in the woods. 13 deer 7 were fawns one of those was a button buck that made it to be a small spike about 2 inches long, he walked less then 10 yards from my tree, he got the free pass. The rest were adult does and two bucks a nice looking 4 point and one other buck that all i could see was that there were antlers on its head. No chance for a shot on the adult deer just far enough out of range, fawns well they had no clue i was there. All in all it was a good opening day here.. best of all I did not see another person in the woods. hopefully good signs for the start of the season, plenty of time left good luck everyone. __________________
arrow32
Sounds like a good day Rags. Shot a doe yesterday but I have yet to recover her. It's not looking good I don't think I'm going to get her.
Tom2008
Hope you find her man. Just put new pictures up in Photography room of buddy and we could of had him!!!! Saw 8 deer this weekend. Had 6 at 80 yards in the field, but just stopped in the middle and didn't come any closer. Kels has a 4 point chasing a doe at 30 yards Saturday morning. The doe stayed in thick stuff and never presented a shot. 4 point was in the wide open though haha. We're going to put the sneak on them and possibly hunt Thursday all day. See if we can fake them out by not coming on a weekend. I will be in WI tomorrow afternoon. Oh and check those pictures out. You'll like them I bet. I'm only able to hunt one maybe two days this week but after this week I'll be making it out 3 to 4 days a week. I'm pumped to put some serious tree time in till the end of the season and get some serious bone down.

CampRAGS
I am blowing off work on Wednesday, have things to do in the afternoon, so instead of taking a half day off I will take the morning to be back in a tree stand, get a few hours of hunting in.. maybe it will be worth an extra day off.. mossyhorn
I passed this weekend up. Muzzleloader came in and you can bow hunt with people all over you. My time off is coming up fast I cant wait. With early muzzleloader already out I think I am going to check out and old but good spot. It has grown up over the years and does really seem to get many hunters. Maybe I will put a camera out sometime and just see what up there. I'll be out tho trying my luck. Thursday night I'll be up in one of my honey holes. Will be the first time this year. Really wanting it to bring me some luck. Tom2008
Man I just want to get something down so bad! I've seen 33 deer so far. Best year yet and it hasn't even gotten to the real good hunting yet! Only a week away before we'll be rattling some big horned boogers. arrow32
Only 33? This time last year I was seeing atleast 3 or 4 bucks a night with I'd say 8 or 9 different doe:D
Tom2008
Only 33? This time last year I was seeing atleast 3 or 4 bucks a night with I'd say 8 or 9 different doe:D Really? Well the considering where I hunt that is a lot so far. No fields here. I've been on a field twice this year and 12 came from that.
arrow32
Dang. Not to many fields in the area I'm hunting either Tom. All old farm land. Some day I hope to own it and you can bet the old fields will be back where they use to be with some sweet plots on them:D
Tom2008
That would be sweet. Yeah its all hardwoods where we are. A lot of up and down too. Only certain parts on the property that the deer go through periodically. We finally found those spots this year and still need to find more. I know there are a couple more, but we are on the main ones. They don't use them everyday though. So it is usually a hit or miss even with two people hunting two seperate trails. We give it are all though and try to make the area more productive with mineral sites and this year we put in mock scrapes and they're working. Well I'm outta here. Off to work and then hour and half north to the cabin. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow night.
arrow32
Good luck Tom! Also not to much flast land around where I'm hunting either. I hate walking up and down hills kills me:D
arrow32
Buddy went out with me tonight since he shot a deer this morning. We threw a stand up above one I had hung and he was going to video. What happened? Didn't see a stinking deer until about 10 minutes till dark and there was no way of getting a shot off then. Got skunked. Oh well. Will be back out in the morning.
Tom2008
Yeah I got skunked too. Kelsey had two cruise by at last light tonight, but they weren't stoppin. On our way out we saw two sets of glowing eyes. They just watched us walk out. Didn't even run. This might of been the last time we hunt in Mora for year. I moved one stand a little more towards where I had tons of deer coming during the early season. So it is all set for next year. The bucks created at least 10 different scrapes and 5 or so new rubs since 3 days ago when we were last up there. Of course they do all that activity while we are gone. I put one of the cameras over the biggest scrape and one camera over a rub line. Found a great spot for Mid October to Rut period. So now I have 3 stand locations picked out. Would like to find one more for next year. I suppose I have plenty of time. Its been really tough trying to figure out where the deer are cruising this property and when. I knew I was getting closer to figuring them out this year, but just not quite. Next year we'll have them down. (I hope). Third year will be the charm I bet. Plan on trying to plant a small food plot next year and keep the mineral sites down to only 1. Get one more camera to cover the entire property or the 4 stand locations 24/7. Big plans for next year. Big plans. Sorry for rambling, but I've had a lot of time to think about all this on stand haha. NOw I get to work for 7 days and then its going to get real good.
