drkillemquick
Thinking about using Black Cloud this year, has anybody tried it, do you like it and what chokes have you tried, and prefer. Hoping to get out and bust up some clays with it this weekend. Also what sizes would you recommend for ducks and geese. Same size as steel, more like lead? Thanks Donnie
ilhnter
I've never shot black cloud, but my buddy bought a box and used it last year and he personally hated it. He couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with it. He switched back to his normal kent and started knocking em down again.
hyperflow
Thats like any bullet tho, I remember a opening morning where i had 2 diffrent boxes of shells, First box i could i couldn;t miss, 2nd box i couldn;t hit a duck if my life counted on it. Some are faster then others and you gotta re-adj your leads and such.
Grady269
Tried em- did not like them. Went back to Remington Heavy Steel. Cheaper and I kill more birds with it.
coles
ive shot it an loved it. i have shot some of the remington with hevi shot in it and i loved it too but didnt love the price. Black Cloud is a happy medium. Hits harder than steel, but cheaper than heavy shot, bismuth, etc. Pattern master came out with a choke specifically designed for the black cloud shells. Ive always just shot it out of modified choke though and had really good luck.

Guest TennesseeTurkey
I shot some last year and loved it I was shooting a Remington 870 Express Super-Magnum with a modified choke. The shells were 3 1/2'' #2's.... My uncle shot some too and killed a wood duck at what seemed like 75 yards LOL...
RTF
I might give it a try this year. I have a Remington 870 pump .

bowhuntMN
I heard from my dads buddy that his son went to ND to hunt early season geese. A guy that was hunting with him was ponding geese with black cloud and the guys in his group could easily tell the difference in the birds he shot since they all folded in and died very quickly. i'd say thats a selling point for me
SpcNape
My father and I used black cloud two years ago when it first came out. We personally didn't like it. We found that we started having more cripples and missed shots. We switched back to Kents and haven't had any more trouble. But on the flip side I've heard a lot of people that swear by it. gitcha_some
Alot of times people have problems with different shot in different guns, i shoot a browning bps and blackcloud works great out of my gun, if i switch to faststeel it wont pattern worth a darn. Just because it wont shoot for you doesnt mean its a bad product....plus you need to be able to read the FPS of load and lead birds accordingly....dont say it cripples birds just because you aren't shooting well Edited September 27, 2009 by gitcha_some
MNcrittergittr
The first year I shot it, I wasn't impressed. I've shot it the last couple seasons to give it a fair shot. I've shot it using modified choke and full choke, and I've shot it using a couple different 12 gauges. For the most part, I use 2 shot for ducks and BB for geese. It seems like with Black Cloud, people either love it or hate it. I will say this, in my experience when birds are close you might as well be shooting slugs. The flight stopper pellets do what they say they do though, that's for sure. I know a couple guys that swear by it. After a few seasons of using it, I don't really feel an overwhelming need to shoot it. There are shells out there that I shoot better. This season I think I'll get some BB or BBB for honkers and that's about it for the Black Cloud in my blind bag.
gateway_hydrographics
a couple years ago me and a buddy split the cost of a case of bc.well every box in the case but 2 were sent back becouse they were bulging so bad they wouldnt fit in the reciever and the crimps werent closed all the way.now the 2 boxes that were good flat smoked the birds but after having that bad experiance right off the bat i havnt bought any more. bluelund79
Its a shell that you either love it or hate it! My 1187 does not like it, but the 870 Super Mag throws some great patterns with a Lt Mod choke to my 40 yd max range. It likes both BB and #3's, but not the 2's or 4's. I took the time to pattern my guns and it made a huge difference in my shooting! Good luck this season. Eric

But when I shoot em with my Mossberg 835, I have better results. I agree with ya too about patterning your guns, it can show you a lot and make a huge difference! Good luck out there this fall guys! whackemnstackem408
I personally love the black cloud shells, I use a benelli with a modified choke and they have killed plenty of geese with them with less cripples over the past year. Jeramie
i'm not convinced it's worth the extra cash. Im in the same boat. I have troubles choking down the price difference from Lead to Steel anyway. Add more money to it and it gets really hard for me to turn loose of the cash. greenhead_hunter
hey Ive been shooting blackclouds since they hit the market, and I love em #3s last season I never had to chance one cripple, whoever cant hit with em is just a lousy shot, hate to be like that but everything I pull the trigger on last season folded like a napkin, and I just bought the kicks vortex full extended choke made exclusively for the blackcloud and Im very impressed but ya never know, its all about what your comfortable with. dblgun
black cloud I've used bc since it came out and i love it. I will say though, that i hit a slightly lower percentage of the birds i shoot at but i have virtually no cripples anymore. I either kill the bird or miss altogether. Just my 2 cents. It's dramatically obvious if you have ever spent any time patterning a shotgun. Those same shells that don't pattern worth a darn out of your gun might be the best ever in your buddies gun. If the Blackclouds pattern well for you they'll work just dandy.
RTF
Well since I have a modified built in choke on my gun with no other option for a choke, I will attempt to find a box of this black cloud today, hopefully at Gander Mountain. Our second half of duck season opens next Saturday.
greenhead_hunter
huuuuu you wont be disappointed they are good shells, federal done a really good job, and its sumthin different, change is good
HammerTimeBagley
I use them on geese only. The most blood I have ever seen on a bird, seriously! Black Cloud BB + Modified choke = DRT Generally use steel on the ducks. 3 or 4 shot in the woods + improved/mod, 2 shot in the fields + full choke.
