Well no such luck this weekend. Plenty of rut sign, lots of rubs and scrapes popping up everywhere but no deer. Wont be home until Nov 6th but that should be right in primetime so I will be out as much as possible. Congrats to you those of you who have scored and good luck to all.

Only thing in range here over the weekend was a long wide spike that looked like he should have had forks. Getting opportunities, just not the right deer. Hope to get out once or twice in the afternoons this week.

We have our youth hunt next weekend and then taking off to Wisconsin to hunt with Randy for a week or so.

Well im home for the weekend so I am going to be hitting it hard the next two days. Unfortunately the weather is warm so hopefully they will be moving early at least.

Dont know how long your wisconsin trip is William but if you are still up this weekend, good luck, if the weather cooperates it should be good.

Good luck to everyone else as well:)

Well this weekend turned out to be a huge dissapointment. Friday morning was really cold but just as windy, I almost fell out of my stand. Friday night was a little better, however, I was a little late getting to the stand and when I got within 50 yards of it I looked 20 yards to my left and there was a doe walking through the woods all by herself and had no idea I was there. I then heard a grunt in the brush behind her but at that same time the doe must have gotten downwind of my cause she stopped in her tracks and looked straight at me. It probably didnt help that I had a can of Buck Bomb explode in my backpack so all my stuff smelled like doe in estrus:hammer1:. Needless to say, she turned and took off and took the buck with her. He never saw me but I never saw him either. I could only assume he was a bigger one becasue the only other deer I saw that night was a few small bucks out cruising.

Saturday was a complete wash, highs in the upper 60s so movement was non-existant. Unfortunately that about concludes my rut hunting for the year as I would get back home til rifle season in two weeks. Might be able to catch the tail end of it, can only hope.

Good luck to everyone else:)

Weather in Wisconsin the first few days I was there was great. Unfortunately the corn posed a problem with deer movement where Randy normally hunts the rut and activity there was pretty well dead up until the last day(Sunday).

I had plenty of opportunities on 1.5 year olds, had an 8 pointer with awesome potential walk past about 18 yards out near the end of my time there. Did manage to tag a doe on the last day. I did see a couple good bucks, and had a really nice 9 pointer I would have been proud to have hung on my wall at 44 yards the first few days.

Had a mature buck at least 3.5 year old that was all busted up at 34 yards jumped my string on the last morning. Thought he was an 8 pointer, not real sure. Last minutes of shooting light had what I am pretty sure was the same buck come back through at 12 or 13 yards and don't know what happened but looked like I must have just grazed him.

Opening weekend turned out to be really slow. The rut is in but the deer movement is slow. I did see one decent 8 pointer with a white spot on his back/shoulder area, but he was not one I wanted to take the first week. But I did get him on video. I'll be back out there tomorrow after noon I hope the action will pick up.

Well I've been on vacation since the 8th and had 4 days off the week before to hunt and all I can say is that it has been really slow in Illinois. Not much rutting activity and if there is any it has been at night when the temps have been down. Been 70 degrees the last couple afternoons. I've seen a couple good bucks, but just couldn't get them in range. My vacation time ends on Monday, and the weather is supposed to warm back up again over the weekend, so yesterday I decided that if a decent buck came by I was going to take the shot. Yesterday evening right at dark I had a decent 9 pt come in at 15 yds and I decided to take the shot. He muled kicked and ran off, and the arrow was covered in blood, but didn't leave much of a blood trail. Couldn't find him last night, so went back this morning and found him about 20 yds from where we stopped looking last night. I hit him a little high and back, but the shot tore his liver up, so I was lucky. He's not the biggest buck in the woods, but I'm happy with him. Good luck everyone!
