Jorden
Well I've been skunked so far this year. Rifle season ended here on sunday. I saw two does and a big buck last saturday afternoon but couldnt get a shot. Went the rest of the week without seeing another deer. Bow seasons runs through the first week of January here but I usually dont get to do any late season hunting because I dont get done with school until around christmas and when I do the deer are usually pretty scarce so it looks like unless a big ol buck comes past I wont be adding to our score this year. Congrats to everyone who has scored this year and good luck during the rest of your seasons:)
wtnhunt
Got out late yesterday afternoon for a short bowhunt, probably one of the last hunts I will have with the bow this season. Almost had an 8 point upgrade to add to the team score. Was a great afternoon, best afternoon of the year for me. It was great except the part of not ever getting my bow drawn and getting a shot on this deer. Had this 8 pointer following a young doe, but had too many other deer around, there were at least 9. Got busted by a doe back behind me when I got my bow off the hanger, this buck was only about 12 yards away and was headed right to the doe who was standing in the open field corner about 18 yards away. Knew the doe behind me was back there but did not think she could see me getting the bow down from around the big oak tree. Ended up stuck in the stand, the buck did come back after dark along with the does and they were all over the field. Have a little over 3 weeks left here, maybe this buck will come back around during the rifle season.

wtnhunt
Good luck on getting that buck!Sounds like a great hunt. Yep, exciting for sure, by far and away the best hunt of the year. Just too many eyes, a real shame my oldest daughter did not whack that old spooky doe on the youth hunt. Good luck getting him William. Thats a nice one. Thanks Chance and Jesse. They are calling for snow moving in tonight, thinking really seriously about getting back in that stand this afternoon with the bow. Our rifle opens back up tomorrow. Good luck to anyone else still able to get out, have about 3 weeks left here still.

wtnhunt
Second rifle opened this morning. Really would have liked to have gotten this deer with the bow, but no way I could give up the range of the rifle to hunt with the bow. Pretty good wind from the west north west this morning and temps around freezing. Was kind of indecisive on where I was going to go walking out the door. Considered sitting on the ground down by the river up against a tree, wind was really not right for the old blind behind me in the second pic, but decided to take my chances thinking maybe something might still move through and got up in the blind early. He snuck in up the hill about 6:40 and stopped right at the edge of the clover plot just long enough for me to get on him and squeeze off my shot. All happened kind of quick, but the shot was probably around 75 yards with the .270.

I thought I was going to be able to go one last time before the season end on friday but will not make it. It has been a rough start to the new year. My wifes grandma died new years day her other grandma broke her hip and has cancer my brother in law mom has colon cancer and it doesnt look good. With God's grace and mercy we will get thru all of this. Thanks for being a good team and hopefully next season will be better.
