HUNTINGMAN
Just wondering if anyone puts out just plain old winter wheat cover crops for deer. Most all you here is all these specialty blends for deer,I'm gong tomarrow and buy about 150#of winter wheat to put on 1 acre of plot space. We have always had good luck out of it in the past and hope to have good luck this season.
Gator
Lots of farmers 'round here plant winter wheat, and you should see the fields. I planted a pasture mix last year, oat and wheat, and the deer mowed it down.

Gator
Also, the ODWC plants it in their food plots in the WMA'a here. I have seen 13 deer in one plot that is no bigger than an acre
nemodeerhuntersneighbor
Plain old wheat works good for deer. Seems like they'll eat it hard until the first killing frost(when it goes dormant) and then they kinda slow down.
Muff
I planted 230lbs of it last week....now all I need is a good rain or two.
joeaveragehunter
Plant a little every year. I like it more for being green right away in the spring to get the deer some nutrition, but have had moderate results for hunting too.
