pendog
Anyone else not sending their kids to school next tuesday? I am waiting to get confirmation either way if they are airing Obama's propoganda message. If they air it my kids won't be there to hear it. Nut
My son does not listen to adults as it is. If they did and they probably won't he would just use that time to take a snooze since it does not involve girls.

sluggunner
Two things here. 1.) I am happy to say my kid's school is not even going to bother to show it. I send her to a private school, so I guess the cost of the tuition is paying off. 2.) For those of you whose kids will be seeing this propaganda, use it as a teaching experience. When they get home from school that night, have a discussion with them about what he said and tell them your views on his policies and what he is trying to do. Let them know why you disagree with him. Also let them know in no uncertain terms that just because this man is the 'president' doesn't mean they have to do whatever he tells them to do. He is not our dictator or king, as much as he wishes he was.
fenderhunt4
if you want to brainwash a nation, you have to start with the youth. thankfully our son's school is NOT participating. but i know other schools in the area that are. layin on the smackdown
I dont have any kids, but i am wondering what this is all about? I have been too busy to watch the darn news channel (but not too busy to watch the outdoor channel), and i must have missed something...What is this idiots speech regarding, and why are they airing it in schools? The_Kat
I hardly see obama trying to brainwash kids with his reform ideas and etc. I imagine it will be a work hard and achieve great things type of speech like we all got from various speakers over the years. However, I think Obama could focus a little more on issues at hand instead of addressing highschool and elementary students who could could give a rats behind about him or what he has to say. Dawg
My son's school recorded it and will show it to those who want to see it. My wife and I sent a note with him letting them know that he is not to watch it. We even got a recorded phone call from the S.I. of the school, sounded like he was trying to encourage parents to let their children watch the speech. He went on about respecting the President...blah blah blah.....blah blah blah.......
wtnhunt
http://www.whitehouse.gov/MediaResou...SchoolRemarks/ Thanks for posting the link Fred. Read that through and I for one am skeptical about the motives behind this. I hardly think this is just a sincere heart felt pep talk coming from the man. Disgusting to think a politician would go after voters through their kids, but I put nothing past any politician and maybe that is the angle in this. My oldest daughter told me this morning on the way to school that she was aware of several things on Obama from conversations at school and we kind of talked a little about Obama and his law degree. Funny that Obama does not divulge his secrets as to exactly how it was that he this self proclaimed"poor kid who got into trouble more than he should have" was able to get into Harvard, and where the funds for that came from. Have never seen anything to suggest he had full ride scholarships to pay for everything, some things just don't add up. Seems to me that Obama has had quite the support from somewhere prior to his debut on Oprah where she started selling him.
AceArcher
You want to keep your kids out of school so not see the President talk about the importance of education? I remember televised speaches of George Bush and I think Ronnie Reagan. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish here...do you not let your children be exposed to T.V. or newspapers. Do what you think is right as a parent...but remember that your children have their own minds and eventually must think for themselves. Anyways...I think he just talked about the importance of education. I think it is great that the President can take a few hours out of each year to tell the future leaders, workers and protectors of this country that what they are doing is important and to work hard in school. I guess you were afraid you kids were going to come home and talk about how cool the President was on t.v in school today...man...that would have been a shame. I guess you were afraid you kids were going to come home and talk about how cool the President was on t.v in school today...man...that would have been a shame. You seem to make some assumptions here Ace. Appears there was a large number of folks who did not want their kids exposed to what Obama had to say as seen by turnout of kids in the schools who were not watching. Those speeches you mention by Reagan and Bush to the best of my recollection were televised for home viewing, not at schools. I have had kids in schools going on 9 years now and do not recall ever having to sign a release to let my kids watch a message from any president. Apparently the school system superintendant here thought it enough of an issue that they put out the forms for all the schools in their system. You have kids in school??? Kids in the middle school who did not bring back the signed form had the option to watch or not and my daughter said many kids chose not to watch. As I said before, I have talked with my older daughters(mostly with my oldest daughter) about Obama and about our current political problems/situation in this country and yes they do see the news and they do read quite well and I am certain they read articles I never know about. My oldest is in the gifted program, quite a bright child(consistently scores between 96-99 percent in all categories on the annual standardized achievement tests), and she will tell you her own reasons(not mine) why she is not a fan of Obama. You want to debate with a 13 year old girl on the topics currently facing this nation and on where this country is headed, might ask some folks who met my oldest on the Alaskan trip she recently took about her expressing her opinions. This kid has quite the mind of her own. Kids are our future, we as parents need to teach them and give them as much useful information as we can to help them achieve their goals, and not rely on the government to tell us what they think is best for our children and how we should raise them, the government has enough problems without meddling there and using propaganda or messages to our kids to attempt to push their agendas. Is Obama not supposed to talk on health care reform this evening Ace? You believe the timing of this message to our children has absolutely nothing to do with this speech tonight? You really think the motive for this pep talk to our children was for the sole purpose to tell our kids to do good. If that were really the case, why did he not make the speech back when the majority of schools in this country started back?
nykole
My son is in the first grade, and when I talked to the school Friday they "had not decided whether they were going to show it or not" and it was optional to the children whether they watched it or not. I decided to keep my son home anyways- just to be on the safe side. I didn't want him to hear anything that man said, regardless of what it was. Yes- he may have only told them to do good in school and go far with their education. But- if he gives such a good speech now, then people are going to think "well that wasn't so bad, maybe he's gonna be okay afterall", and then- just like that- he's got his foot in the door. What's he gonna say to our children next, now that he has the parent's trust? I didn't even want my son coming home and talking about Obama- so we just enjoyed the day off. I don't trust Obama in the least little bit- no matter what what his initial intentions may be.
Nut
I can not help in thinking of this question. Who would you fellas want to give a speech to the kids encouraging them to work hard and stay in school besides yourself?
wtnhunt
I can not help in thinking of this question. Who would you fellas want to give a speech to the kids encouraging them to work hard and stay in school besides yourself? Maybe Lee Iacocca or Fred Thompson. Just a few that quickly come to mind. Dont hardly think I would want my kids getting words of encouragement from someone who thought it was ok to do drugs and who has so many questions unanswered about exactly how they got to where they are.
