Guest Defcon15
Every year we burn a certain amount of our property. Does anyone know if the antlers actually burn during the fires, or just change colors, or look the same after a fire goes across them? The first year that i found a pair of sheds - they were in a burned area and they looked about the same, but they just had a shinny tint in some places - but i also found them in some brush where they might have been somewhat protected. Ever since though, I have never found them in burned areas. Does anyone know why this is?
fisherguy
Re: Sheds and Controlled Burns Unless it is a darn hot fire it shouldn't do more than maybe darken the antler. I would take morre than just a brush or grass fire to seriously damage an antler. As far as not finding them in the burned areas i would sispect that the deer aren't in the areas you are burning when they shed.
