Buckstalker
My wife hunts with a youth model 870 20ga. She has done ok with the rifle sights but wants to put a scope on it. I was tinking about the Nikon Prostaff 2x7x32. Do you guys think there will be enough eye relief(3.8") with the short stock?

If less than 37 yards I would look at a good quality red dot. If your shooting a saboted slug and she can go past 100 yards the prostaff would be great. wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. The prostaff "shotgun" scope may work ok. There seem to be quite a few scopes on the market now that are designed for use with shotguns. Not sure however about the mounting options and whether or not you will be able to push the scope far enough forward for proper eye relief with the shorter youth model. What type mounting system were you planning to use?
fly
I really like the tru-glo red dot scope I put on my 870 20 guage. It's fine out to 75 yards and it's not bad on the pocket book. Got mine for about 60.00. Newer ones have the red dot and green dot option. I bought it primarily for my kids. They have trouble finding things with the eye relief and the red dot has unlimited eye relief. They do have models with 2X magnification and various reticles. The single red dot is great for 75 yard shots and closer. Not sure, but I'd likely get the kind with 2X magnification and crosshair reticle if I was shooting 100 yards +. I've shot 2 boxes of slugs and with my B-square mount it is as tight as the day I installed it.
Buckstalker
Thanks. Is that tru-glo scope the model with 870 mount with it? It states 12gage mount. Is it the same mount for the 20gage?
fly
Thanks. Is that tru-glo scope the model with 870 mount with it? It states 12gage mount. Is it the same mount for the 20gage? The red dot scope I have was sold seperate from the mounting bracket. The 20 guage wingmaster I have is very old. Probably close to 40 years. I'm not sure when Remington switched but back in the day the reciever for the 12 and 20 guage were the same. I found this out after trying on the 20 guage B-square mount and it did not fit my receiver. Since it was too small I tried the 12 guage and it fit snug. The tru-glo scope would fit either as I recall.

hunterbobb
I would take the gun to the shop you plan on buying the scope from. You can place the scope onto the mount system and you will know before you buy it if the eye relief is correct.
MichiganHunter
that 2-7x32 is a great scope, my dad has it on his semi auto 30-06 and it holds up good, I have the bushnell 1.75-4 on my slug gun and have taken deer out ot 160yds with that gun.
