mikewink
Last night the wife took the kids to Grandma's to visit and so I could check my trail cameras. Then decided to go see my Dad. Left Grandmas, turned on to the highway went about 100 yards and there in the middle of the road laid a fawn. Head up, but must of just gotten hit. So I pull the car over, get out and grab ahold of the little fella by his legs and haul him over to the ditch. The little guy was bleeding from his mouth a little bit but didn't see very much damage. :crutch: Now the whole time I'm doing this my wife and 5 year old are watching intently. Some guy pulls up, lays on the horn and starts screaming at me, telling me that I'm a jack#!&. That the deer should die because they cause too much property damage. And told me to pull the deer back out so he could finish it off. Of course the whole time my car windows were down. My wife bless her heart rolled the car windows up before my son heard the vulgarity the ended up coming out of my mouth. Anyways the point here was the lesson my son learned was that even though I go hunting every year and he is always willing to go with, that just because we see a deer it doesn't mean we have to kill them all. He was a little surprised when I pulled the deer to safety. By the way the fawn did make his way to his feet and took off. I think he was just stunned a little. buckee
Good for you, and yes, you did teach for son a very valuable lesson. Way to go Dad. And the guy that stopped to shout obscenities was just plain ignorant.
arrow32
Great job. Seems like someone needs to teach that guy some manners.
Ethan Givan
Yeah theres alot of people that need to learn that lesson. Hunters are the biggest conservationists there are, and we care about and respect the animals we hunt.
fly
Lotta freaks out there! Shouting back may have provided instant gratification, but the best thing is to ignore them.

sluggunner
Too many sorry people out there. They are either pitching a fit because we hunt deer or pitchin' a fit because we feed and take care of them.
wtnhunt
"What is wrong with some people?" They are just wrong or sorry people. Pretty sad really that there are so many sorry people out there like that nowadays.
Kels
What a jerk. He really had to go out of his way to be an a$$? even If he didnt approve of your kindness he could have just kept driving. GRR!!! well good for you! and good job setting an example to your son, that we need to protect the animals we hunt.
Turkeygirl
Wow...but kudos to you! Last year driving to school, there was a fawn doe walking around and standing in the middle of the road...people were stoppingto look at it then drive it. Well I pulled over, got out and put my hand on it's rumped and had to maneuver it off the road. After a couple minutes, it seemed to come to and crossed through a hole in the wood fence and went off. As I drove away I looked and it stopped and looked back at me before moving on. I think she said thanks:) I may love hunting, but my heart is just as passionate for wildlife it'self
PotashRLS
That was a very nice gesture. The other guy had a captive audience and took advantage of it. He's a DB and is probably lucky your son and wife were with ya...........:hammer1:

camoman1
Good job on doing the right thing and teaching your son a valuable lesson in the process!!! If it were me there helping the deer....I would have 'helped' that guy into the ditch after I helped the fawn....but I dont have any kids that would have been there to see it either lol

Hunt or be Hunted
good job. i would have got that guy out of the car and put him in the middle of the road when i got done with him so someone else could finish him off
gonhuntun71
Typical. And yet somehow hunters get labeled as the "rednecks" and "hillbillys". I too live where the deer population has exploded. I still dont subscribe to the "kill em all and let God sort em out" mindset. Here in NC we get 6 free tags with the purchase of a license and can purchase unlimited additional tags. However, this guy sounds like a perfect example of the kind of yahoos that give true hunters a bad name a make it increasingly difficult to gain access to hunting leases and manage deer the ethical way. What about the overpopulation of idiots? Should we resort to dumba$$ genocide? Good job and good example for your son.

dance.and.shoot
Sheesh. Can you believe some people??? Yeah, there may be a lot of deer in that area, and yeah, they may damage the property some. But that doesn't mean he has any right to kill it just because it's a "nuisance" in his eyes. The way I look at it, since he's dead set for killing Bambi for being a nuisance, we can hunt HIM if we consider him a "nusiance" I'm not saying I would, I'm just saying that's how I would've taken it if I had been there. That's just my 2cents
