OUTSIDER
I am shooting Easton Epic 400's blazer vanes with an 85 Gr. G5 Montec, and they sound like an airplane taking off while in flight!!! (maybe not exactley like an airplane but they are loud). Why oh why are they doing that??? They fly true, no kicking or out of balance spinning...
Randy
How much helical do you have on your Blazers? I am using the actual Blazer jig with the 3 degree helical and noticed more noise than usual. So, I'm guessing it's your blazers.
OUTSIDER
3 degree rt helical on them...they are flying exactley 280 fps out of my setup, i just hate the noise...i am thinking about getting smaller fletches and re fletching them or something, i think the deer would hear the arrow. dartonman
Its definately the fletchings....I shoot straight fletches now because of the turbine sound........maybe to save some costs, take sharp scissors, and trim around the arch of the fletchings...take a little off each one, and number it.....you may just have weak fletching toward the outer lip.....trim em up, and try against the non trimmed ones....saves money if it works.....I have done it, and it may be your ticket to savings, and silence.........al

Out of the 20 or so broadheads I tested the Montecs whistled.

OUTSIDER
I should have noted that my wasp bullets have an aircraft in flight sound to them also....which should have led me to the conclusion that the fletchings were making the noise. Squirrelhunter91
My Slick Tricks whistle also. The deer don't mind though. Neither do groundhogs or squirrels.

Yeah I'm sure the animal doesn't even know the broadhead is whistling. Its just another one of those things we think is bad.
Quacker-Wacker
Deer will hear your bow go off before they hear the broadhead whistle. All the noise weather it's broadhead or fletching is BEHIND the arrow not in front. Put your video camera at the target while you shoot and you will not hear a thing! AdvantageTimberLou
Montecs have always whistled................... Yep, I had some 100 grains that whistled with both 4" Nap Quikspins and Blazers. I always hoped it would be the last sound a big buck hears! LifeNRA
I never heard my Blazers whistling. I use a right helical. Why not set your jig to less than 3 degree's. Maybe the whistling will stop, and no other equipment will be needed! On my Bitz, the lines used for visual adjustment. Top is slightly to the right of the line. The bottom is more to the left of the line.
maddhunter
At 30yrds or less the only thing that deer is gonna hear is the sound of his heart stopping after that Montec slices it up. Oh Yea !!!! Once at a Realtree, OK 3-D shoot I notice that the more helical the guys were using the they would sing, you could hear them from the time they left the bow till they hit. And we were shooting field tips, they don't WHISTLE. Feathers also make alot of noise. Try your field tips if they still sing/whistle it's the blazers, if they don't it's the Montecs. And yes all broadheads make noise, some just more than others. If you don't want as much noise shoot expandables. stcif
broadhead whistle My broadheads seem to whistle too. I think it is because they don't know the words
Tony
easy way to prove if its the vanes or the broadhead is to swicth 1 broadhead to a differant kind and shoot your arrow. if you get whistle, then its the vanes. no whistle then its the broadhead.
