OJR
I was in a store looking at possibly getting a new cell phone today and when I came out, I couldn't unlock the doors to the pickup! I tried the key and still it wouldn't work! Now I am stuck! I took my cell phone and called OnStar! In about 1 minute, "click" the doors opened! I was on my way again! Pretty slick! The battery was dead in my remote to unlock the doors! New battery and things are back to normal!

MCH
Here's the conversation that went on at the On-Star Facility: "Looks like we've got a customer that's locked out of his auto. FBI database shows red flags for his participation in a hunting site. Says here that he's on a low carb diet and could snap at anytime. Recent doctor's visits have been favorable. Looks like he was just at Verizon purchasing a new phone. His plan wasn't at renewal so let's see why he's needing another. Yep, local representative's notes show his other one was malfuctioning. This is his first phone call from the new phone. His last 10 calls were to family members, Domino's(guess there went the diet) and one call to the local radio station. Apparently he called to complain about the language in the rap music they play." "Just got his internet history in and like the FBI's says, he spends 99% of his time on a site called Realtree.com...the other 1% is spent googling low-carb recipes." "I think we can safely unlock his car without notifying President Obama. What do you think?" "Sounds good to me. And just for the heck of it, tune his radio to a local rap station and turn the volume up." :D:D Edited September 9, 2009 by MCH

LifeNRA
Thats weird that the key would not open the door! I had the On-Star on my Impala for three years, I paid for two. Dropped it because I never needed them! LOL! Although, the on board phone was nice. But hey I have a cell.
OJR
MCH, you had part of it right! LMBO!!! No I did not get a new phone and yes, I used the old one to call OnStar!! It worked great! From what I know now, if your remote won't ope it, then there is a feature in the computer that locks the doors down, thinking someone has taken your remote. I don't know this for sure. Will check it out! I am going to take the truck in Monday and have the door locks checked along with the computer to make sure everything is working the way it is supposed to! So it goes! GWSmith
Gone are the days when you could keep a metal coathanger stuffed in the rear bumper for emergencies and all was good:disolve:
redkneck
Gone are the days when you could keep a metal coathanger stuffed in the rear bumper for emergencies and all was good:disolve: Still pretty easy. I locked mine in the truck this year at lowe's. Was able to slide my knife behind the weatherstripping on the back door side glass on my Z71 and pop the window out. Went back into the store and borrowed a piece of quarter round to snake across to the unlock button on the other side. Was easier than I thought it would be. But you're right, the slim jim days are gone.
toddpipkin
Slim-Jim days aren't gone. I average 2 to 3 "Assist motorist - unlock" calls per shift. I have a Slim-Jim, a 3 1/2" wooden wedge and a 1/4" steel rod 40" long, with a 1" "L" end. I can get into 99% of the vehicles within 2 minutes. fly
Strange that the key wouldn't work???? Has it ever worked?
OJR
Strange that the key wouldn't work???? Has it ever worked? I had never tried it! I agree that is not right, so I am taking it to the dealer and have the lock assembly checked out!
Randyman
Gone are the days when you could keep a metal coathanger stuffed in the rear bumper for emergencies and all was good:disolve: How true! My first car was a 1971 Chevelle (wish I still had it!) and I could get in it just as fast with a coathanger as I could the key! :helpsmilie:
