Clap33
Ok guys the season is almost here in Ohio and I need to find a few things out. I just read an article by Greg Miller in the Mathews Bowhunting Whitetails Magazine. He states that it is best to hunt off of field edges from mid Sept. to mid Oct. He says this is a transition period which I believe and it is best to hunt back off of the field edges as the bucks may take longer to hit the fields. Here is my problem. I hunt all crop fields and fence rows. I have 2 stands up around funnel areas in the corners and tons of deer activity on my cameras at both stands. How should I go about hunting this farm? It is the same thing every year. Once the crops come off the deer are gone. Should I hunt these stands hard and heavy before the crops come off or should I only hunt them a few times so I do not disturb the deer? I agree with what Greg said about moving back off of the fields but I have no where to move to. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! GWSmith
Do you have permission to hunt anywhere else besides the crop fields??? If so you could get an Aerial photo of the area and try to figure out how they are getting to the fields and where their comng from. Usually the thickest cover becomes the travel corridor. Tominator
Play the wind and hunt where you're seeing deer, just be careful of hunting the same place night after night. Shift your stands as the winds shift. Once the crops come off, consider a blind using a decoy, especially on the corn fields. A lot of times you'll see deer hang around picked corn for awhile until they figure out their cover is gone.
Clap33
I have permission to hunt all of the land around my place but there is no cover. It is all fence rows. Once the crops come off the cover is gone. On the back side of the farm there are to small wood lots but they do not hold deer either once the crops come off. I do have a couple other trees that I can hang stands in if I see deer coming from that direction and it will help play the wind. I guess I will just switch stand sites every couple days and see what happens until the crops come off.

Clap33
Thats what I hunt too. I have 2 stands. Both are in the corners and on opposit ends of the farm. Both of my fields are beans surrounded by corn fields that the deer stay in. I think I will switch how I hunt it. I will hunt one stand in the morning and then the other in the evening. The next day I will start with the stand I just left and hunt the other in the evening then take a day or so off. Anyone see any downfall to that strategy. dawgitall
Clapp33 I don't have to much experience hunting the corn fields. I will heading to your neck of the woods on the 14th of November. When I get there the corn will be gone. Hopefully the necks will be swollen and there will be some Buck activity. I'm trying to get my first P&Y.
