KirkV
Well the wife tells me come out and move this snake so I can prune these bushes will you. Neither of us want to kill them just let them live, so I go out and see the tail end of a garter snake. I move to the other side to get ahold of him and move him to a different spot, then tell her.... Um he is a little busy just let him be! Strut10
Yes.. exactly why! ....toads are evil. Kill'em all;) I thought that toads were at least as beneficial to the ecosystem around my yard as anything else. I know my 4 year old daughter has way more fun playing with toads than she does with snakes, anyhow. Where's the hoe when ya need it??? Tominator
Wow. Kind of too bad. I'd much rather see him eat a mouse instead of a bug eating machine like a toad.
Randyman
Wow. Kind of too bad. I'd much rather see him eat a mouse instead of a bug eating machine like a toad. While I must agree, that is an unlikely scenario. Garter snakes lack venom and are not constrictors. They simply overpower and swallow their prey alive. A Mouse would be a tough row to hoe for a Garter Snake. I take great pains around my yard to not hit Toads with the Lawnmower. I think it is cool to have them around. wtnhunt
Those are good snakes to have around, unfortunately we don't see too many garter snakes around here. Water mocassins and copperheads were moving around a bit here over the weekend, saw more of them than I would have liked to.
backwoods07
That's a huge garter snake! We used to have em all over here. That was before the houses and the people and the stores....Stupid urban sprawl.
HUNTINGMAN
I seen a garter snake in the street on the way home the other day,I swerved in the other lane just to run over it.
ruttinbuc
That is a toad? Looks like a slithery slug to me.. then again what do I know! I have a whole nest of garter snakes up where I hunt.
Adjam5
I take great care also when I mow, not to kill any snakes or frogs or toads.

woolybear
I seen my first little juevenile rattler yesterday sunning on the sidewalk looking to cross the busy road. Just about 8-10 inches long. Not a common site in these parts so I kicked him to the ditch. No cam handy unfortunately. He was a skinny little dude, but I'll betcha he's got a mommy and daddy out there somewhere eating toads and such as we speak!
