tedicast
It's 12:30 am. My alarm is set for 4 am. I will be waking up for our archery opener. I just spent the last hour and a half getting 3 live baby squirrels out of the engine compartment of my truck, which has been sitting for the past couple months. Jen was on the phone with the state animal rescue people and they think they are old enough to survive on their own. I took the nest, and the 3 live squirrels, 2 were dead, and put them in a cat carrier with the door open, at the edge ofthe woods like the animal rescue people suggested. Now, what really has me wondering, is this....I went through all this trouble tonight, but tomorrow morning, I will be hoping to kill a deer. It kinda doesn't make sense. I will have no problem killing a deer tomorrow, but was almost in tears tonight about the squirrels. Hmmmmmmm
GWSmith
It makes perfect sense...Respect for Nature and it's animals is why we hunt.

redkneck
Or you could've seasoned them up good and by the time you drove all the way to hunt they would have been fully cooked on your engine. You did the right thing bud. Good luck on your opener! I tried to raise some little squirrel orphans once, and them little buggers will tear you up when they get some size on them. stevebeilgard
some great answers here. i can't do any better.
Prairiepredator
I don't think there is anything wrong with what you did. Just because you are a hunter doesn't mean you have to try and kill every animal or not care about them.
tedicast
now the more important question...How did your opener go???? My bro shot a doe early this morning. so I barely got to sit this morning. Saw nothing this afternoon. Landowner and his friend both stuck a deer right at dark, I'm just in from tracking, and taking care of those 2 deer. I'll be back out Sat. morning. buckee
I have a soft spot for all baby animals, and injured animals. In spite of the popular belief among the antis these days that us hunters are heartless killers, it just isn't so, as we all know. Ya done good like Luke and others have said. In spite of the popular belief among the antis these days that us hunters are heartless killers, it just isn't so, as we all know. Ya done good like Luke and others have said. Yep. Had an excellent chance to mash a skunk this morning. I hate skunks almost as much as coons. The stupid thing was waltzing right down the middle of the road, I could have easily moved over a little bit, but I took him right down the center of the vehicle. Wouldn't you know, for saving that stupid thing's life, he rewarded me with spraying the underside of my wife's car. Should have mashed him. woolybear
Should have mashed him. But you concience took over in the end. That's commendable enough to me on the difference between right and wrong. Believe it or not....hunters have hearts bigger than the game that they seek. sluggunner
I totally get it That is exactly what non hunters will never get about hunters. Our care for the wildlife and the outdoors. Good job. And so does everyone on this site. The statement above is pure truth. I (we) all love and respect animals and admire their beauty. We don't hunt them to be cruel or because we enjoy killing. We hunt because we respect and believe in and contribute to the natural process of nature. You did a good thing.
