Squirrelhunter91
Why oh why did the Wide 8 I've been chasing since 2006 go and break off his left G3? Now he's a Wide 7. It's so not fair lol I guess it kind of adds some character though.. He's definitely been rubbing too, check out the bark on his browtines! Do you guys think he broke it off fighting or rubbing? That particular tine had an acorn on it, which may have been a weak spot. Before: Last night:
woolybear
Probably gonna have to give him the pass now huh,lol If I had to guess for the time of year I'd say rubbing. Edited September 15, 2009 by woolybear
Jorden
That sucks but hes still a good looking buck. How old is he? If it were me I would pass him another year but like I said he is still a great looking deer.
toddyboman
Boy that sucks..... I would say given the opportunity to shoot you had better! As you know he is old and wise so you won't get many chances! Good luck Buddy!

Adjam5
That buck is 5 1/2 years old. We have pics of him from when he was a young'un. He has not given many shooting opportunities throughout the years. The last one, he was standing in someones yard at 40 yards. The pass through would have hit the house in the background with the angle Joe was on...so he was given a pass. I hope one of us at least gets an shot off at that bad boy. Gonna go heavy on scents and scrapes to lure him this year. He is the dominant buck around these parts.
Stone Cold
That bites! I also say you should let him go one more year. My 10 point has a broken up rack too and it does give them there own charactor. My guy had 8 inches in deductions but I would not trade him for nothing since heis the biggest deer I have killed to date. Here he is:
Muleyman
Hey. That is an awesome deer. Sucks he broke his g3 other wise he would be a shooter. He must really be a fighter though to break it so soon.
danthehuntinman
That sucks that its broke already. I would still have to shoot that one he is big.
jdavis
I hear ya; I've been watching a nice 10 all summer long. Just checked my camera last weekend and he broke his main beam just past the G3.
Stone Cold
Ouch! That would really make me pass on that one. It will let him get more mass for next year. Your deer must really be trying to get ready for rut! They want to work them neck muscles to be the toughest buck in the woods.
Adjam5
I also say you should let him go one more year. He is 5 1/2 now...how old would you let him get before you'd shoot him? That is about of a mature buck as I have ever seen. He passes by my stand within 40yds... A bilateral pneumo thorax is in order . I'd leave his broken beam broken for the mount. The way he was. Besides we have pics of him for the last 4 years.
wtnhunt
That stinks Joe, but that dude still is very impressive and would look great on the wall with the missing tine, could always have a taxidermist fix the tine too if you just really wanted it looking like the first pic(you guys have tons of pics to go by). Body on that deer, you can tell he is in his prime right now. He might be a little better next year, but might also get hit by a car up the road, given the opportunity would not hesitate to put him on the wall and in the freezer. Good luck to you and your dad. c_lou
I would still put an arrow through him if given the chance. At 5 1/2 years old, that in itself is a trophy.
Stone Cold
I would take him then! I want to get pictures of a buck for a few years of watching him grow then take him out. That still is a nice buck but being that old I would stick him too. If he was younger I would let him go for one more year. He is really wide and a nice buck. With my 10 pointer the taxidermist asked if I wanted his broken brow, G3, and main beam on his right side fixed and I said no. That is the way I shot him so that is the way he stays. I agree with you on that.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Just an FYI - if you're seeing multiple bucks at this time of year (rubbing phase) with broken antlers, there is probably a vitamin or mineral deficiency in the diet. Turkeygirl
That stinks...but still a very nice buck! I think acorns do make the ine weak at that point..I have a few sheds with acorns and can see a line around where it would break off it knocked around. Still a beauty of a buck...I'd take him if he gave me a shot!
Adjam5
Just an FYI - if you're seeing multiple bucks at this time of year (rubbing phase) with broken antlers, there is probably a vitamin or mineral deficiency in the diet. Tex, I could only imagine what this buck would be if we here in NYS; would be able to supplement the deers diet by feeding and offering minerals. We would have monsters. This buck is 200lbs on the hoof(look at his gut and brisket), most likely will be in the 160's field dressed. So he might be eating good, but not what is good for antler growth. This year we had a good crop of acorns and a bunch of good antlered bucks too. My son wants this deer BAD.

That's too bad Joe, but I have to agree with dad and William here. You guys have so much history with that deer, I'd say take him given the chance. You have the before pics, so hime being broke off, no big deal in my book. Good luck. :robot:
Squirrelhunter91
Chris.. without a doubt this buck will go down if me or my dad get a shot on him. 29 days! I would leave the tine broken like that too. So reason to fix it. Makes the story that much cooler!
