I just woke up from a little nap after getting up at 4:30 to go hunting and having an unsuccessful (so far) bear recovering.

Gary got the story perfect, accept I forgot to mention it was starting to rain.:( Not my choice of shots on a bear by any stretch of the imagination, but it was all I had and he was still coming, with his head up (thank God). It was in slow motion when the arrow hit, because he hesitated before rearing around of taking off. I could see clearly my arrowed buried right where I wanted it almost all the way up to the Exturkinator arrow wrap. That's a bit over 16" of arrow in there.

After talking with Gary, I waited until Wilfinator arrived with his son-in-law and we went back into the thick stuff where I saw the last blood sign. It was pouring down rain now,but we went at it determined to find him. We picked up the blood trail, and thanks to Wilf's son-in-law's keen eye-sight and a lot of looking, were able to track the bear through all kinds of thick crap for another 200 yrds or so. The bear wasn't walking a straight line. He kept turning at 90 degrees just to make it more difficult, and he was keeping to the thick stuff.

The last blood sign we found was near the back of the property, and it looks like the bear was headed for the river.

There's a steep embankment going along the back of the property, before it drops down into some jungle type flats along the river.

We got soaked, cold and sore, with no bear or pictures to show for it, but I am sure that bear is down somewhere back there and will have to look again tomorrow if it will stop raining long enough.

I'm bummed. I thought we would have found him by now.:(

Man, that bear was so close I could have almost reached out and touched it.

I know I heard the agony that you were going through when I called. I know only a small part of that was from me calling for an update and waking you up after your power nap.:hammer1::clown:

I'm still very confident that you'll find him soon. I know you'll go back to the shot and figure it out from there. I bet that area looks all matted down like a parking lot tommorrow from you walking all over it making the best effort possible to find him.

Dont forget that you did what you had to do in the first place to protect yourself.;)

The weather started clearing late this afternoon, so maybe tomorrow will be a good weather day (I hope). I am sure that he's dead, because I got a real good closeup look at my arrow in him, but with no blood now, the leaves still on the trees and all that undergrowth, it is going to be tough.

Maybe I should take the pooch with me.

Here's what I have so far.

BearHuntChecters.jpg

Sorry about that. The lettering didn't come out too good

The Green is the blood trail

The red is the property line

The blue is the old steep river bank

The Yellow is a high-fence that surrounds the house, sheds etc.

I hope I can find him.

I looked all day and never found my bear. It's so darn thick in there this time of the year, and that rain yesterday washed away all of the blood trail.:(:(:(

I took my dog with me too. She came home smelling like a bear, but no bear.:(

I'm tired, and bummed. That was a nice bear. I wish it hadn't been so dang close. :( We took each other by surprise.

Thanks for all of the support and kind words. I was hoping to show you some really nice pictures today. Sorry I disappointed you and me.
