Should have.........

Well, had it not been for the unusually wet summer, we were supposed to or should have had our home to the "dried in" stage about now. Had posted back in July with some pics here http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88193, and trying to keep up with the progress in a blog here http://www.realtree.com/forums/blog.php?b=288. Seems to be with our luck that the weather just is not going to cooperate. Rained here over the weekend and have had flash flooding this week, looks like we may get a break next week for 2 or 3 days, which will be just enough for things to not quite dry out.

So this is where we are at now. Contractor was supposed to pour the slab earlier this week and then be started on the floor. Logs were delivered last week, which had we known about the weather we probably would have had them hold off.

Mud about a foot deep around the basement walls, sides are caving in from so much rain.

A lot of water inside, still some minor dirt work to do once it dries out enough.

Materials all over the yard.

Get all your wood under cover. Wet wood is a tradesmans nightmare. You don't wanna PO them guys.

Kind of thought the same thing. Our contractor was out here yesterday morning and I asked him about the uncovered wood and he said he was not too worried about the 2x12's(floor joists) getting wet.

He was a little concerned about the beams, but said they would be ok, the bundle of beams on top are not ours, so maybe our beams are not getting too wet.

the 2 x floor joists will be just fine. they can take a lot of rain. the osb flooring is another story. keep it covered. good luck with the rain thing. hope it dries out for you.

Alls I was reffering to was anyone that has to push a big drill bit through wet lumber. Nails go in easy. Your contractor is most likely not doing you plumbing, electrical, or heating so what does he care.

BTW those muddy paw prints on the foundation wall cracked me up!

Actually the contractor is going to be drilling all the exterior holes for electrical in the logs. Interior electrical and plumbing will feed through the floor from the basement into walls. Our contractor is going to help me get everything roughed in. Will be for the most part on my own with finishing out everything.

No interior lumber has been delivered yet with the exception of those 4x8 loft beams in the picture Steve. We can put the subfloor and interior siding and tongue and groove flooring and ceiling boards in the garage for now.

I did get back out yesterday and covered up everything I could with the vapor barrier plastic I bought for our slab. Looking like the rain is not going to end in the next week. Not sure how I am ever going to get the bottom of the basement wall cleaned out to put sealer on it.
