375 Ruger?

I WAS going to buy one... But I already have an odd ball....a 35 Whelen.

Granted, I LOVE projectile horsepower as much as anyone else here.... but the 375 H&H does just as well, and is already well established.

**Acquiring brass for all the ruger chambering is a hard thing to do... as well as good loading data for all suitable powders.

They created a duplicate of a cartridge thats as old as the memory of cordite.

I would get the cartridge myself...but I would rather just buy the original, and not have to worry about finding this or that.

Nothing against them but I am thinking Ruger is wanting to cash in with the "cartridges we dont need" catergory.

They're a few years behind in the short magnums bringing out the 300 and 338 RCM cartridges along with Hornady. Winchester has a very good foot hold with their 300,270 and 325 WSM's. Until I start seeing other manufactures producing rifles in the RCM's I see doom in the future.:crutch:

They now have 375 and 416 Ruger that are supposed to equal the 375 H&H and 416 Rigby . Good luck with them Ruger, but I dont see them de-throning the nearly 100 year old cartridges any time soon. While Rigby ammo isnt found as easily as 375 H&H , both are more abundant that the Ruger counterparts. Ammo availability is important to some.

No offense to Ruger but I am thinking I'll be fine with the Rigby's , 375 and multiple 300 mags I have.:clown:

Cole,if you want a thumper, find a new or used Win 70, CZ550, Rem 700, Browning,Ruger 77 or Sako in 375 H&H and dont look back, it's going to be around for a while.

Sorry for the rant, carry on.....:taped:

You have a very good point. I guess i just like the short barrel on the Alaskan. But who knows. i got some other things that are higher on the priority list than the 375 ruger.

FWIW......... My .375 has a 26" tube. I was kinda hesitant to build the rifle on a 26" platform due to it being primarily a brush gun. But the Weatherby chambering really benefits from a longer tube. I have pushed it, dragged it and crawled with it through some of the thickest stuff you can imagine and have never felt the need to shorten it.
