hunterbobb
I use powerpoints in both 45 and 50 cal guns. They are extremly acurate load easily and hit like a sledge hammer. I am surprised that more people aren't mentioning them.

swampbuckva
I shoot 250gr T/C Shockwave but have been thinking about the change to a heavier bullet with the Harvester Crush Rib Sabots. I am not a fan of Powerbelt bullets but i know alot of people are. Ive never seen a blood trail left from them in three years of my nephew shooting them.Thats 4 deer found all 4 but no blood!!! PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
From my Flintlock with the 1:48 barrel I shoot either a round ball or a conical. Killed many deer with this combo. From same flintlock with the 1:28 barrel I shoot a 300 gr Hornady XTP Got one deer with this set up. From my inline I shoot the same 300 grain Hornady XTP and have killed 6 or 8 deer with this set up. Over the years I have used TC Maxi balls, Buffalo ballets, round balls, and have tried 45 cal bullets from 185, 230, 240, 250, 260, and my current 300 gr. Tried several weights of powerbelts but none of my rifles shoot them very well.
headhunter54
Just got back from the rifle range. Changed my set up in my Omega completely. Got the breach plug that uses 25ACP for the primer. Using Pyrodex ffg, 110 grains measured, and 300 grain, 44 cal Dead Center bullets. Was using 295 Power Belts and 2 of the 50 grain pellets. First shot was to foul the barrel and then shot 3 times for grouping. All three were within 1.5 inches. Moved the crosshairs and shot 3 more. This time I got 2 in the same hole and the third was 3/4 inch away. Shot at a target at 200 yards and got 3 within a 4" spread All this was done with a parch dampeded with spit and a dry patch behind it. By far my best day at the range with a smokepole. DocMort
350 Grain hornady FPB in front of either 100 grains of 777 pellets or 120 grains loose 777 between me and dad shot 5 deer last year none of which went more than 20 yards, that was straight on running shot. Both TC encores. Closest shot 30 yards farthest in Ohio was 190 all dead deer.
quigleysharps4570
From my Flintlock with the 1:48 barrel I shoot either a round ball or a conical. Killed many deer with this combo. Recently read an article stating that the roundball is the poorest performing muzzleloader bullet you can choose for hunting. Can't help but wonder if the folks who write those articles ever hunted with a rifle that shot a patched roundball.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
250gr. Hornady SST's, I may switch to something a bit heavier, maybe the Hornady FPB, they are 350gr. I ended up switching from the SST's to the Hornady XTP's 300gr. They group a bit better, hopefully they perform better than the SST's. I was shooting golf ball size groups at 50 yards with open sights.

FrontierGander
Recently read an article stating that the roundball is the poorest performing muzzleloader bullet you can choose for hunting. Can't help but wonder if the folks who write those articles ever hunted with a rifle that shot a patched roundball. Or trying to sell you something else! I used 80gr pyrodex rs and a .530 round ball on a cow elk at 140 yards. Shattered both lungs and she only went 60 yards with an excellent blood trail. I plan on hunting strictly with patched round ball in the next year or two and filming all of the hunts and documenting each kill with a patched round ball.
