redkneck
I'm astounded as always Ross. You are the ultimate craftsman. If you ever decide to make your own sheath I'll send you whatever snake hide you want, I usually remove a few from the house each year. hammerforged
Thanks everyone, this Lady is going to Steve Douglass. Some of you will remember him from these forums. Huntingman the handles are 100+ year old Birdseye Maple Burl, which I salvaged from the destruction of an old Textile Mill near me. The mill was built in the mid 1800's and this wood was some of the flooring in the mill.
redkneck
Hey Ross, just curious about something. How many hours do you typically spend on a knife. I know in doing what you do, there's no "typical" knife, each one is unique. But just a ball park as how many hours you spend on a knife that size. I know it's a labor of love for you. Prairiepredator
That is a great looking knife and a really cool sheath! I have always loved damascus blade knives and would love to get one someday. Great work!

John - I've got right at 52 hours in this knife, 28 hours in the forging of the blade and the balance in the grinding, heat-treating of the blade and shaping of the handle. All of my Damascus blades are forged to shape, so I have more time in them than if I were just forging up a billet of Damascus. I first have to forge up the billet then set the pattern then forge it to shape, then forge in the bevels for the edges. I don't have a TripHammer so everything is done by hand and hammer. I've got a 300 pound Peter Wright anvil so that helps a lot.
