Dakota
Went out dove hunting with a couple of friends today. We weren't expecting to see a whole lot but I was pleasantly surprised. I haven't been dove hunting in a number of years and decided to bring both my 12 gauge over and under and 20 (I figure, I bowhunt for a challenge why not bring the 20 gauge? ) gauge single shot along. First dove that came by ran into a lethal load of 20 gauge 2 3/4" 8 shot at 30 yards. The next dove was lucky and managed to escape my 20 and my friends' 12s. My friends decided to walk around the farm to another spot a couple hundred yards away and it wasn't long before another dove flew in, dropping under a load of 12 gauge 2 3/4" 7 shot. Later on we ended up driving to a sand pit that one of my friends has access to through his dad's job. With time running short, the three of us walked the area and flushed a group of three doves. Only one of them presented us with a shot and Ben fired and missed. I was his back up and dropped the dove at 60-70 yards...and then I heard the smack of a dove hitting water. Luckily the dove had fallen close to shore and the water was shallow. Ben shot one on the way back to the truck but it fell in tall grass and we couldn't find it. When we got back to Ben's house I moved all my stuff from his suburban to mine and decided to hit up a small Waterfowl Production Area just outside of town before heading home. Within two minutes of leaving the truck I had another dove down and had missed another twice. Four doves out of seven shots and one with the 20 gauge! Not bad I'd say! :robot: Within twenty minutes of shooting that last dove I had them all cleaned and in the freezer! Wish I didn't have to work tonight because then I could have possibly gotten my limit. Don't work tomorrow so I think I'm going to spend the afternoon dove hunting! Tominator
Sounds good Dakota. Ohiobucks and his son joined me yesterday. We all got 10 or 11 birds. His son took a few tries to get dialed in, but once he did Jake was dropping them pretty regular. We had a pretty good time.
