turningcustomcalls
Just wondering what you guys do when the action is slow to make time go by while on stand. I've seen people play yatzee, blackjack, etc....Now with cell phones we can txt people, check e-mail, etc.... Just wondering what you guys do? Also, what about food. Do you take snacks and anything to drink?
hoosierhunter
no food, but i do take water... Also I usually track live games on ESPN.com on my blackberry.......Having that makes time go fast!
backwoods07
I never bring food just because I know with my luck something big will happen when I'm chowin down. I text people a lot, especially when I know my friends at home went out the night before. Nothing says good morning like a 4:30am text after a night of drinking! I also play games on my cell if it's not too cold. Nothing too unusual I guess.

layin on the smackdown
yep...Every september i switch my testing packages to unlimited due to the fact that i text 1000 times more during hunting season...I also have a soduku book in my backpack that gets some use while things are slow...Normally i don't bring food at all, just water. speaking of texting, i better get on that now, crap, season is almost here!!! fly
I don't text and I've never played any kind of electronic game while in the stand. No food and no water unless I'm staying in the stand from sun up till sun down. Then I'll take a lunch and bottle of water. Nature and talking with God keeps me as stimulated as I need to be. I look forward to the solitude it re-charges my soul.
Mach1
My brother and I text back and forth a lot about what we're seeing from out stands. I've taken a book to the stand to read as well.
Bowtech_archer07
I've taken a book before and yahtzee. Don't do that much anymore. I text a little bit and check sports stuff online every once in a while. Sometimes come on here and see what's goin on. Last year during our shotgun season I bought a bag of fun-size snickers bars and threw them in my possibles bag or my coat. Will definitely do that again. Those tasted pretty dang good during a cold morning on stand. Just a little somethin to hold me over till I can get back home and eat. arrow32
I text sit around and what not just whatever to pass the time. I take lunch with me most the time because I sit on stand all day alot of the time just like to be there all day in the calmness of nature. ruttinbuc
Just when you kill the last alien or figure out the message of garbled text a buck shows up and where is your weapon? Hanging on a hook! Hunting with all those distractions has to bring down the odds of killing anything. It is called hunting for a reason. joeaveragehunter
I would love to say I am all natural, but i am guilty. I text the other hunters in camp if I get service and my girlfriend to make sure she is okay in stand. I also bring a book if I stay all day. A granola bar and a bottle of water are a must...if I start getting tired half a granola bar and drink of water wake me right up.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
If I am going to be sitting longer than usual I'll take a snack, and I always have a water bottle and/or my camelbak filled up. I have yahtzee to help kill time when bored, and since I now have an iphone, I am sure I'll be messing around with that some.
hungry hunter
I catch up on sleep, it seems when ever I doze off, when I wake up 9 out of 10 times I got a deer or Hog comming into range. Ya gotta love a tree lounge.
PAarcher
I defenitely text a lot my hunting buddy and I usually hunt the same section about 200 yrds apart. We keep in touch and I let him know when deer are heading his way and he lets me know when I've got deer coming it's nice a buck slipped past me just out of range and i texted him right away and told him to get ready and he ended up placing a perfect arrow in him! He said it happend so fast if I didn't give him the heads up he probly wouldn't have been able to pull off a shot!
treeinwalker
No killing time. Constantly glassing and watching. I hunt 99% of the time. Legend Killer
I text my brother as well....last season on opening day of Shotgun season I shot a nice 8 pt minutes after legal shooting light began..and he sent me a txt "Just like that..." It was pretty funny... Most times I will bring a radio with earphones and only turn it on around 8am(to listen to some hockey insiders) and thens shut it down....and in the afternoon...I will listen until there is about an hr of light left, then I shut it down...and I ONLY listen with 1 ear...very low volume... Also, I always have mini chocolate bars or granola bars and a bottle of water as well...and after Halloween...sometimes some candy

Illinois59
How about this? My hunting partner and I play wireless video golf on our PSP's. When it's my shot he is scanning for deer and vice versa. One of us is the hunter and the other is the camera man.
Ravin R10 man
I like to bring "The Good Book"..great quiet time too
camoman1
Early season I only take some water. Later in the year when I sit longer I take some snacks along too. As far as entertainment, I just watch the other critters that are around, catch up on some thinking, and enjoy my time away from all the craziness of life. Just one day out with nothing to worry about except enjoying a day of hunting can relieve alot of stress. Nothing like watching the sun rise and listening to the woods come alive in the morning.
