J.ALLEN.IA
I will take my MP3 player to listen to for the first hour or so that I'm up in the stand as things settle in. As it gets 30-45 minutes before sunset I'll put them away. I have my smartphone with internet, texting, etc. Or there's the good ole cat nap as long as I am strapped in. Tony
No killing time. Constantly glassing and watching. I hunt 99% of the time. The other 1%, I'm thinking about where and how to hunt the other place....too crazy....must deer hunt... summer fever overload....cannot stop thinking about hunting........must be in the woods at all times....8 hours behind this computer making me innnnnnsssssaaaaaunnnnnnneeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!! Amen brother.. stand time is killing time. those that dont pay attention are the ones that have deer sneak up on them. Tony
mikewink
I often sit and watch deer. I have a pretty good set up. Lots of deer. If the deer aren't there I hone my bow skills by shooting the grey and red squirrels. Did you know that they can jump the sting too!
turningcustomcalls
I'm glad to know other people have squirrel arrows. Do you use a good arrow and broadhead or do you have a bad arrow you use?
Stinger-Hunter
Great thread. Depends on the circumstances and where I'm hunting. When I am hunting an open field with a lot of cover around me, I'll whip out the ol' cell phone and text people - but that is rare. Usually I am like a slower version of the character in "stand by me" when they are in the woods and he's on look out with the handgun (except me with my appropriate weapon gun or bow). I'm always hearing things when they are not there and not hearing things when they are so i try to stay alert. Beginning of the season it is no joke - I'm all about business. Then after awhile, I calm down especially after i get my first deer. When I have my tree climber set just right... oh so nice to be out in the woods. KirkV
RB and Fly I am with you, I sit keeps my eyes open and my ears listening. I always have my bow in my hand and ready for action. I have never had a big one come in and surprise me where I could not get a shot off at him. I am dog tired at the end of a day, but I know I gave it my all! backwoods07
I'm glad to know other people have squirrel arrows. Do you use a good arrow and broadhead or do you have a bad arrow you use? I never leave home without a squirrel arrow! My "practice" arrow is tipped with a Judo or a Bludgeon head. I also have a coon arrow that's tipped with some cheap broadhead. I found out last year Judo points don't kill coons
KirkV
I think in Illinois it is illegal to have anything but a broadhead in your quiver..... I may be worng but you may want to check that one out fellas.

mikewink
I'm glad to know other people have squirrel arrows. Do you use a good arrow and broadhead or do you have a bad arrow you use? I always have 4 arrows in my quiver. 3 with broad heads for deer and my one squirrel arrow with a field tip. Commonly known as my squirrel sticker!!:gun2:

Gilly
I catch up on sleep, it seems when ever I doze off, when I wake up 9 out of 10 times I got a deer or Hog comming into range. Ya gotta love a tree lounge. My buddy has a tree lounge on his property that I hunted in once. That thing is so comfortable I fell asleep in it for two hours:sleep1:. Cant bring my self to buy one cause of that.

Strut10
Just wondering what you guys do when the action is slow to make time go by while on stand. .... Just wondering what you guys do? I look around to see stuff I may never have noticed before. I go hunting to get away from cell phones, video games and the like. Also, what about food. Do you take snacks and anything to drink? Generally have some granola bars, apples and water in my pack.
dance.and.shoot
One of my buddies'll take a notebook up with him and compose songs, writes in his journal, write poetry, or write letters. If he has service, then he has his phone on him to text...well mainly so he can update his facebook status constantly about how his progress... Another one is a really accomplished dancer and usually puts together dance moves in up in the stand. It's actually really comical to watch him do this...some of his best dances have come while he's in a tree stand!!! and if they do take snacks, I make sure that it's something that' not wrapped in plastic or very noisy. I'll usually make them some mini sandwiches and wrap them in a bandana. I'll pack apple slices sometimes and other small stuff to hold them over until later. The_Kat
I text my buddies that I know are hunting also to see if they're having any luck. I also play games on my cell phone. I do my best to pay attention, but those two things help pass the dull times on stand.
