Gator
When the final 12 in the Chase were announced, I saw that mark martin was number one. Wasn't Tony WAY AHEAD of everyone else as far as points were concerned? When did winning more races get you elevated to the top? I'm guessing I missed something here? VABuckSlayer
All the Chasers start over with 5,000 points. They get a bonus of 10 points for every race they win. Mark had 4 wins so he starts with 5,040 points. Stewart had 3 wins so he started with 5,030. That's why Mark started the Chase in 1st. This is just another reason I don't watch NASCAR anymore. It's gonna suck for Tony if he doesn't win the Championship, but would have under the old format(s)
JimT
Mark Martin was ahead before the chase started. Tony was in second. He had a few not so good races at the end. We were at Louden. The loose axle cover really hurt Tony at the end. It was a good race. It could have went to Tony,Montoya,or Martin. Was very cool to watch Martin win. I am not a huge Jr. guy, but he was having a great run as well.........

It's gonna suck for Tony if he doesn't win the Championship, but would have under the old format(s) The guys are racing different under the new system. You can't go by the lead Tony had before the Chase. Some of the teams try different stuff before the Chase once they feel confident that they're in. If we still had the old rules Tony may not have that big of a lead because Johnson and the others would have taken a different approach to each race before now. I didn't like it at first but it's the same rules for everyone and I kind of like it now. Definately makes it more exciting to keep up with. If Stewart had a 300 point lead and we were still under the old system not many people would keep up with it the rest of the year (except the Stewart fans which I'm not one of! ).
