redkneck
I'll recommend The Old Pro Turkey Hunter It's a book that anyone here would love to read on the stand, but you'll probably have to pick it up on ebay or amazon, it's not printed anymore. I'll definitely check out the Shack.

fly
If you haven't read "The Shack," you're really missing out. If you never listen to anything else I ever say, listen to this. Truly an amazing read. Was going to say the same thing! Just finished leading a Bible study at church on this book and really provided me with some new insight on my relationship with the Lord. Hoosierbuck
Walt Wangerin is a Lutheran pastor (so you know his doctrine is strongly Bible-based) and professor at Valparaiso University (my alma mater x 2) and he writes Biblical novels. Jesus, Paul, and The Book of God are the ones I have read. Basically, he takes a Biblical account and brings it to life by filling in conversations and such. Really gives an interesting perspective. I highly recommend them, not as a substitute for the Bible, but as a thought provoking pleasure read. HB
