outdoorsman91
I am thinking about rattling and using a grunt call this season to try and bring in a decent buck. I was wondering if these actually work? I have no expierence using them.
Orion_70
Each has it's time of use. I always carry a grunt call but usually only use it when I can see the deer, hear the deer, etc, but occasionally, depending on the time of season will blind grunt. Rattling is hit and miss and depends a lot on the time of rut and the buck doe ratio.
toddyboman
yep they work.... I usually have the best success when I can see the deer. I rattled in several bucks last year....Again I usually have the best success in rattling them in after I have seen them. I did rattle a few in blindly. your success depends greatly on the deer....Sometimes they come in on a string other times they show no interest. Good luck
Bowtech_archer07
I think it depends on the area and the deer's mood. There have been years when I have had great success rattling, and other years where I never rattle up a buck. To answer your question, they do definitely work, but it can be hit and miss. It's definitely worth a shot though. You never know, the next time you hit those horns together a monster may just come looking for a fight. joeaveragehunter
I seen my biggest buck from the stand after rattling two years ago. Haven't rattled a big one in since. I don't grunt til mid october as it seems to scare deer by me if you do it earlier. So... yes they do work, keep at it and the antlers will pop up when you least expect it. A lot depends on the user and the population of deer in your area, but any hunter should be wise to the use of a grunt call at a minimum IMHO. arrow32
Heck yea they work. I rattled in a couple bucks last year. I have always saw them first tho when rattling. I use a grunt as well and have had alot of luck with it.
ODH
rattling depends on the time of the rut

mikewink
It depends on the time of year, location and buck to doe ratio. I live in an area where there are probably 6-7 does per buck. Most bucks don't come running to the sound of antlers or a grunt. They don't have to. I hunted Kansas a few years ago. The area I hunted had a 1-2 ratio. If you passed gas at the right time a buck would come in all puffed up. Talk to some other local guys see what they do. Call a local guide, ask him when they grunt and rattle.
