My Wisconsin Black Bear !!

First and foremost thanks go out to my Brother and Dad for handling so much of the baiting this past summer. It makes hunting so much better when it is shared and enjoyed together. Thanks guys.

Well............We finally turned the tables on this crafty fella. He was coming just about anytime in the afternoon but not everyday. He was very sporadic until recently. He had another younger bear with him so we thought he was the biggest sow we had ever seen due to the fact we couldn't get good picture evidence to prove otherwise. Monday afternoon I got out of work early and instead of sitting with to film the hunt, my Brother dropped me off at the stand with the ATV and baited it just like always. I then climbed the tree while the ATV was running. Two hours later at 5:05 he and the smaller bore show up. It took 40 minutes to get a shot!!!! He stood up putting his two fronts onto the stump rim giving him an upward incline. I picked a spot and let fly. Instantly that aweful sounding SMACK echoed followed by the loudest ROARS I have ever heard. The bore went down right there and began crawling away into the sapplings with his fronts. I quickly hung up my bow and drew my Ruger Super RedHawk 44 and anchored him with 3 shots as he was vacating. It is a bit unnerving to see and hear how this transpired in person as no sportsman/woman wants to cripple an animal. He quickly expired within a minute. This bore's hide is in perfect condition and has no hair missing. He is a beautiful bear. I am very proud of him and the 44+ hours I have on stand. He dressed 260lbs with a live weight of 310lbs. He was 63" nose to base of tail.

My brothers Duke and Corey and Corey's 2 month old little guy Wyatt assisted in the extrication from the woods. Nothing better than family.

With the bear inclined standing on the stump and my arrow hitting a couple inches high, the arrow first went THROUGH the near side shoulder blade, then smashed THROUGH the spine and came to rest inbetween two ribs on the off side. The head is bent but has two of the three blades intact with the third one being found in the vertebraes. This all from a 1 3/4" cut Grim Reaper expandable head. So for those that say they aren't tough, fooey!!! The head performed awesome on a less than perfect point of impact. The pictures are a little graphic but we always learn from the carcass of what ever game we harvest. I even pulled two slugs out of the offside shoulder as two of the three shots from the .44 connected through his shoulder/chest area. The Hornady 240gr. xtp mushroomed yet penetrated well. I learned a lot on this bear.

This is his nearside shoulder.

I appologize for the fuzzy pictures as I forgot to change the pixel setting back until half way through. I hope you enjoyed my taste of the hunt as much as I did.
