ZooBear
I just ordered a Lyman GPR kit and Im not sure if I want to blue or brown the barrel. If I blue it I will have to use a cold blue. Any advice on products or tips for cold bluing or browning would be a great help. Which would hold up better? WABS
Re: Bluing or browning ZooBear - I browned the barrel of my Hopkins and Allen about a year ago. I'll have to check to see what I used when I get home today and I'll get back with you. It was pretty easy and it really looks nice. If I had to do it over again I'd brown it again! WABS
Re: Bluing or browning Give me another day -- I'm struggling with a cold and so I didn't get to it yesterday. My nose was running much faster than my feet!!
WABS
Re: Bluing or browning OK I finally got down in the basement to look at the bottles. I used Laurel Mountain Forge Barrel Brown and Degreaser. Worked great and looks great.

magnatecsteve
Re: Bluing or browning You can also do it the ol' fashioned way..degrease the barrel, make a water trough, plug the muzzle, suspend barrel a couple inches over water and let it rust. Once a day go over it with steel wool turning it slightly. When it's good and brown, use baking soda to stop rust, then lube the heck out of it with a paste type lube(Bore Butter)
ZooBear
Re: Bluing or browning I talked with the techs at brownells. They suggested their own browning product. No wet box, no waiting, just put it on and card it off. I will let you know how it turns out.
