dbHunterNY
So I'm new to muzzleloading. I bought a new T/C ProHunter and had one shooting session with it. I cleaned the barrel and pulled out the breech plug and cleaned that the best I could. Well I thought that was good enough, but I just looked at it after it's been sitting a few weeks and it's got a little rust. The rust is around the extractor and reciever area where I didn't think was that dirty. Well I guess there was enough residue from blow back after 15 shots of 150gr of 777 that it's rusting a little. Tonight I'll take take the whole thing apart and the barrel off and clean all of it. Any input as to what I should make sure is clean or anything I should be watching will be helpful. I should be alright, but black powder is a pain! lol Fun as ever to shoot though.
fly
Lot of people have had poor results with American Pioneer Powder but it sure works good in my Remington and isn't as hard to clean as regular black powder. You can buy a breech plug cleaner for your T/C. Worth it if you ask me.
VermontHunter
I haven't had any rusting issues with my Triumph, but I do disassemble every part that can be cleaned, and then they get a good wiping with oil ..
dbHunterNY
I haven't had any rusting issues with my Triumph, but I do disassemble every part that can be cleaned, and then they get a good wiping with oil .. This is one thing I will now do. Blow back around where it breaks was rusting a little bit from the blackpowder in the little areas I couldn't get to without taking the whole thing completely down. I cleaned things pretty good and I everything is fine. It's just tough to see it happen to a brand new gun that's been shot 15 times. It was my fault. I'm still very happy with it. GWSmith
....every part that can be cleaned, and then they get a good wiping with oil .. Same here...I store them that way then run a swab down the barrell before shooting again;)
