sureshot
today was windy, prob close to 50 mph so the deer weer really hunkered down out of the wind, made perfect situation for stalking in the calm side hills, this afternoon about 430I seen 4 does and decided to fill another of my anterless tags so I ranged at 37 yards drew back and with a slight wind swirling hit her a bit farther forwood than would of liked but she went down within site, by the time I got her out and cleaned it was getting close to setting sun so I hurried to the spot were the big non typ is, driving down the road I see 5 deer cross the road, as Iget closer its him, heading right for the area I still hunt every night 1/4 mle away, I drove around and came in on a run and waited, I could see him cross one vally but not the next so i started the stalk, I belly crawled with wind in my face I ranged 75, a bit more 65, a bit more 51 and I am out of area to go, I was over a hill and in front of a huge hill blocking the wind so I felt confident on the shot that I practice all year, I put the 50 yard pin on his shoulder and settled down just as he looked up and took a couple steps, I settled again and he trotted off, 2 more seconds and I would of had a 200 incher on the ground, I got back to the truck and as I drove down the road he was on the crest of the hill so I took a few pics, I can count at least 15 points by the pics, he has a crappy frame prob 160[net] or so but at least 30 inches of crap, he will gross around 200 , I have not eaten today and am starved so will get pics posted tomorrow, plus I have to skin the deer I got tonight out yet, muzzleloader opens thursday and daughter has a tag, hate to see her take a 200 incher first year, there will be nothign to hunt for in the future lol!!! Prairiepredator
It seems like you get closer and closer every day to that buck Bret. One of these days you will get him! Today in that wind, I know I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a 50 yard shot. Good luck, hope you can take down that monster!

Today in that wind, I know I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a 50 yard shot. Good luck, hope you can take down that monster! I was behind a hill there was no wind at all, they were in a va;lly feeding and I managed to belly crawl into the wind over the hill, the hill behind them was bigger blocking the wind, If I did anythign wrong I should of crept 3-4 more yards , I think I was prob sillowetted in the skyline thinking back, I would never take a shot if I was not sure of it, yesterday I passed up a 20 yard shot becouse the wind was moving my bow on a big old doe, If I was not centered and steady I would never of released, The pin was perfect steady I just needed 2 more seconds to release!!
