Re: THE VIKINGS

It's unfortunate that Reggie Fowler is buying the team as from what I've heard the guy may have scrounged together the investors but he will have no money to spend on making the team better. I've been hearing some things about the guy that make me wonder. As for the Vikings, I've learned long ago that they will most likely be stuck in mediocrity as a result of stupidity on the part of owners/coaches and I won't waste a Fall Sunday watching when I can be out hunting!! As long as Culpecker is quarterback they will never win a superbowl. He may be physically able but it takes a brain to win the big one...Montana had it, Favre has it, and he never will. Big numbers during the season mean squat. When he got hurt in 2003, Gus Frerotte came in and was on fire. He was winning games and had something that Culpecker doesn't have...Accuracy on the long ball with consistency. I can't tell you how many times I've seen receivers such as Moss have to slow down to catch the a ball that was underthrown. They should've left Frerotte in there and I believe they would be a much better team as a result. Here are some stats from Frerotte's starts in that 2003 year.

In his 1st start as a Viking, Frerotte set team record with 157.2 passer rating vs. San Francisco (9/28), completing 16-21 passes for 267 yards and 4 TDs...Became only the second Vikings' QB to throw for 4 TDs in his 1st start with the team, matching Todd Bouman's mark vs. Tennessee in 2001...Started second straight game the next week at Atlanta (10/5) and threw for 239 yards and 2 TDs on 14-24 passing...His 102.6 rating against Atlanta gave him back-to-back 100+ passer rating games for the 1st time in his career...Made 1st appearance of season under center at Detroit (9/21) when he entered the game in the 2nd quarter for an injured Daunte Culpepper...Led the team to 10 points and preserved a 23-13 win over the Lions...Threw a pair of 72-yard passes in the game, including a 72-yard TD to Kelly Campbell...His 72-yarder to Randy Moss tied the Viking record as the longest non-scoring pass in team history...Became only the 2nd QB in team history (Fran Tarkenton vs. LA Rams in 1972) to throw a pair of 70+ yard passes in a game.
