Tominator
Swine flu is confirmed in our school district. 3 confirmed cases at the middle school. 80 kids out at the high school, 80 kids out at the middle school. Elementaries have normal absences I guess. Dang, hope I don't get it. I can't afford to get it right now.
GWSmith
I hope you dont get it too....I hate any kind of thing that even resembles the Flu....a procelain appendage attachment usually follows:wacko:
Doe-ee
Lots of kids out of school with it here too. I've had 6 out of 11 at work sick on and off with it for the past couple of weeks. We're told here that this is just the first of three waves that will hit this fall and that this is the mildest one. Keep taking your vitamins! MCH
My kid's school let out at noon today. Told everyone that they were going to be out tomorrow for sure but going forward, we would just have to listen to the radio. My daughter has some form of the flu right now. Doctor didn't seem worried, but when are they ever?? Anyway, we're walking on eggshells right now. She's had pneumonia every year since birth. wtnhunt
Middle school that our oldest daughter is in has been shut down for the week as of this afternoon. They had 170 kids and a few teachers out. This is not a huge school either, think they have around 700 total students. Christina had flu like symptoms after they got back from Alaska, think she has already had it. Nicole tested positive for flu last week, she was better in just a couple days. I checked with the elementary school here after the automated call came in from the middle school and they said they were not shutting down the elementary school. Physicians around here from what we are getting are not treating the flu unless there are severe symptoms in which case they are treating the symptoms. Adjam5
H1N1 is NO joke...Purell seems to be a good way to keep germs at bay, but those hand sanitizers also kill good bacteria. Hope you do not get it either Chris. In a school though, it may be very hard not to be exposed.
sskybnd
i heard on the news today that they about 80 million doses that should be going out by next month, but 10% of them are going to other countries.

Adjam5
?? what's purell?? is this a cure for swine flu? Steve it is hand sanitizer that is used often, when in contact with others in offices, schools and hospitals ect. It comes in a pump bottle. Pump some out and spread all over your hands. It will kill most ANY germ. 99% effective in the stop of germ spreading.
RangerClay
Folks, before we started our school year my district had someone from the county health dept. come speak to us. One thing they said was nothing is better that frequently washing your hands. Hand sanitizer such as Purell is NOT a cure all!!! The reason being is because if you have any grime on your hands the sanitizer will NOT go through it. The flu germs can hide under any dirt or grime on your hands. As I said before, wash your hands frequently and avoid putting your hands to your face.

Tominator
160 out today, double yesterday, and lots going home with fevers throughout the day. Bet we are up to 180 total today.
MCH
Local school has announced that they will be out for the remainder of the week at the very least. Over 180 out of a very small school. Not sure on the attendance but my son's 1st grade class is fairly large by their standards and he has less than 30. Ohiobucks
160 out today, double yesterday, and lots going home with fevers throughout the day. Bet we are up to 180 total today. I just wonder how many of these students are staying home or going home early because of their parents fear vs. actually being sick? Wash your hands everyone. Dawg
These are two school districts near me. One is just 14 miles east and the other is about 2 hours west. The school my son attends hasn't gave any notifications as what they are doing to help prevent an outbreak here. Hopefully they are doing the best they can. http://news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v2.cfm?show=localnews&pnpID=974&NewsID=967332&CategoryID=20207&on=1 http://news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v2.cfm?show=localnews&pnpID=974&NewsID=967345&CategoryID=20207&on=

Tominator
I just wonder how many of these students are staying home or going home early because of their parents fear vs. actually being sick? A lot. The AD and I were talking about that after lunch. They planted the seed yesterday, now there's a little hysteria going on. Although I will say that they are taking temps down in the office, and I personally saw 2 kids that registered temps of over 99, so I think there is something to this. Rumors are flying we are going to close, but the admin came out with a memo yesterday that said we are not. We'll see. If we close, maybe I can hunt, then paint.
