me and some buddies were thinking on going bow hunting somewhere in ohio. but we need to know if the non resident tags are over the counter or if we have to apply for them. if they are over the counter i was wondering if i could get some info on where there is some decent state land to hunt and when the best time to bow hunt ohio is. any info would be wonderful. thanks ethan.

Yes you can get licenses over the counter but i would recomend getting them online before you head out. I am not familiar with the western side of the state but i have heard good things about the deer numbers out there as for eastern ohio there is plenty of good public land. Just across the Pa boarder i have been out to Egypt Valley and it is dense cover plenty of deer and places for them to hide and grow old. A 2nd option is Jockey Hollow not as big as egypt valley but 3 of us went out last season the first week of November we all had opportunities at bucks one of us took a nice 10 pt that scored 139 the other two including myself passed on a few year and a half olds. we only hunted two days though. If you travel a little farther west into Coshoctan county the Woodbury wildlife area has many mature whiteails i have only hunted it one time but have scouted it for 2 years now. As with any public land wear out a pair of boots for the best hunting but when the rut is on the bucks can be anywhere. If a little more remote hunting is your thing look at the Wayne National forest a friend of mine hunts there every year. He tells me your not going to see a tone of deer but when you do it is very likely to be the rite one! Percentage of mature bucks is high on Wayne! Do some basic google searches for maps and locations of the places i have mentioned! Hope this gets you pointed in the rite direction.

when i lived in Ohio, i hunted in Guernsey county near Cambridge Ohio. theres a great place called Salt Fork off of US Hwy 22. its a very large state public hunting land. i shot quite a few deer there during bowseason and theres usually lots of room to roam around. plus thers usually a few big bucks running around down there, near the golf course.
