I'm a small business owner and I have to vent, and hopefully tou salesman out there will get some good tips out of this post. I'm not trying to be nasty but 'm going to list a few sins that a lot of you commit. These sins will hurt your comission.

Sin #1, Never under any circumstances tell a business owner that "I've been thinking about using your product, or using your service". This will NEVER increase your chances of making that sale and if you don't buy the product or service, that businessman/woman will notice. It's the oldest trick in the book. I've been told that a million times and not one salesman has ever bought a thing from me. We don't care if you buy from us But don't say you will, ever! If you do buy from us, tell the owner afterwards and remark how happy you are. If you use the "I'm Gonna" line you just instantly lost credibility.

Sin #2. Never be late!

Sin #3. Know your product or service inside and out. We hate when you reply "I'm not sure, I'll have to check" This is unavoidable sometimes but the more you know the more you'll sell.

Sin #4. Don't ever even suggest. "you should do this", "you should do that". We business owners don't want an advertising salesman telling us how to run a customer service dept.

And last but not least. If you commit these sins I guarantee you that that business owner is going to call his business owner friends and tell them how stupid YOU are. We are stressed enough! Billy joe called in sick, I just lost my largest account, How am I gonna make payroll?, Blah Blah Blah!!! The list goes on and on. If you come across as a person and not a salesman you will have better results. I guarantee it.

I'll bet money that many business owners out there will agree.

You have the hardest job of all, I just made it easier.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good post.

Now, here's a little advice coming back at you.

Don't spell the first word of your subject wrong when giving advice.

Could have lost me from there, but I can always use sales tips. wink.gif
