My dad had to bring me to his stand because i had no idea where it was. (haha) So, he brings along a climber to put in a tree by me. No problem there. But, it takes him like 15 minutes to get it right, then he plays around with his water bottle. The entire hunt i can here him plain as day 10 yards away. I know he wasn't trying to make me mad. If he is really that loud in the stand how has he shot like 5 140 class deer and one 180 class typical? Then when some does come walking by they immediatly notice him by sound. haha. luckly they didn't bust. Do loud hunters have luck on their side or do they just know when to be quiet? A guy that used to hunt the place I have permission to hunt shot a 170+ buck a few minutes after putting out his cigarette. Ya know, sometimes when you know where your at in relation to deer activity and time of day....well you'd be amazed at what you can get away with within earshot of your quarry. For the most part, deer hear distant sounds and up close and personal sounds every day and as long as they pose no immediate threat to them they are just another sound they adjust to. I don't think deer have the sence of reason to disipher between a clang from a climber or old neighbor Joe working on his rusty pick 'em up truck depending on where he is at said time of day. That same buck will most likely come unglued if he hears that same clang as he stages in an oak flat or creekbottom away from civilization prior to feeding time or watching his backtrail to a bedding area. Then other days if you lean your head out of the brush a deer 400yds away in the field will spook off. Go Figure... Tony Posted September 30, 2009 Report Share Posted September 30, 2009 some guys are just plain lucky. your dad sounds like one of them guys. you need to ask him if he could rub some off on you. i have one buddy from Ohio that could fall into a mud hole and come up with a 10 lb bass. this guy shoots some of the biggest bucks in the state and has a wall of fame at home, that would get some serious attention from even the pro hunters of the hunting world. for me im never that lucky, i usually get busted several times a year by does and bucks and the only bucks i get to shoot are blind in 1 eye. good luck Tony Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I never see much outside of does and young bucks. I am covered in head to toe camo, take a scent free shower, cover my body with scent killer once before going to stand and once after getting settled. I have a friend who after work comes in changes into camo, hit a few sprays of scent killer on his pits and is out the door, and he chews wintergreen skoal while hunting. The past two years he killed 2 big bucks, shot one just last week and couldn't find it, then calls me tonight to say hit got a big one and is tracking it as we speak. He had good blood and had just started looking for it. I figure he will call any minute to say he got it and with his luck will be a giant. Well...LOL...Yes(1 buck & 2 doe)...and It was'nt a chain saw I was running but I tried not to get any on my boots when I got suprised by them! dbHunterNY Posted October 1, 2009 Report Share Posted October 1, 2009 I got something for you. On my parent's land does are rarely hunted. Well I setup a table in a field not far from one of the barns. I was sighting in my new T/C muzzleloader an afternoon and I'd clear the field of two doe each time I shot. Each time while tinkering they'd come back. Well when I moved the target out to 200 yards it was much closer to them and when I went to shoot a three shot groups into it they didn't go anywhere. One actually came in to check out the target after the second shot! The third I had to wait for them to walk out from behind the target. lol Come deer season though they'll probably head for the hills running.
