jerdanmagic
I have got a nest of red wasps under the platform of my two-man ladder stand. I was in it two days ago and they got after me as I was getting down. Only got hit once though, as I ended up jumping off about 12 of the 15 feet of the ladder. I need to get them out of there before I sit that stand, so my question is how? I'm afraid that Raid or wasp spray will really stink up my site and will make deer weary. Same with gasoline. I'm also afraid of just knocking the nest down with out killing them first. Anybody got any tricks or tips?
Orion_70
Just spray those suckers down with wasp spray and don't hunt it that day. Other than that, you can mix up some permethrin and spray them down that night, doesnt' smell as much but you have to get closer with a pump sprayer. I'd opt for wasp spray and be done with it. wtnhunt
I sometimes have some pretty bad allergic reactions to wasps. Use wasp spray here, and try to hit them from as far up as I can safely reach them without getting too close. Just be sure to spray from a direction that will not have spray coming back in your face. Don't think the spray bothers deer too terribly much. I was spraying these last year when.................. ........I climbed down from behind the canvas I saw these deer behind me. Don't think they ever had a clue I was there. I have had to be careful opening the door of our box blind, have sprayed a couple nests in there the past month or so, one just a few days before our archery opener. Had deer out in front of that blind both Saturday and Sunday the opening weekend.
Jeramie
If it was me I would get a big stick or something, knock the nest down and RUN... Once the nest hits the ground they are gone. You should be able to return later or the next day without any worries. I had an old tire next to a stand once. I got out of the stand, tossed a big rock on the tire knocking the next loose, and then I ran for it. Never got stung. The next day they were all gone and the nest was still there. I crushed the nest and then drug the old tire off. No more issues and no smell.
Texan_Til_I_Die
I don't think the smell from the wasp spray would last that long either. Maybe 24 hours or so, and even then I'm not sure it would spook the deer. But I do have another solution if you want to try it. Disclaimer - Do this at your own risk! Open the crimp on a low power shotgun shell (or do a reload) and replace the shot in it with floor sweep or kitty litter, and then re-crimp it closed. Put the barrel about 3 feet from the nest and pull the trigger. Their won't be anything left but a smear and maybe a few wings.
arrow32
I'd use the wasp spray. Don't think it would bother the deer any.

Turkeygirl
Yeah, I'd say just go with the wasp spray...leave the stand alone for a day or two...maybe even take some scent spray and spray it afterwards....don't think it'll bother deer much...not like you are spraying it all over the woods... jerdanmagic
The wasp spray did the trick! Sprayed them on Thursday around 3 pm and I shot my buck at 8:20 am the next day. I guess that answers the question of does wasp spray scare deer? Case closed.
RangerClay
If you have a recurve bow, tape a tennis ball on the end of an arrow and let'r fly. Works for me everytime.
