Dakota
I've been shooting 12 ga. 3" BBB but it just doesn't seem to be cutting mustard. I've been wounding geese but not dropping them. I've been thinking of switching the Heavy Shot or maybe to T shot. What do y'all think? Dakota
camoman1
Alot depends on what patterns good out of you gun/choke. I have tried just about all sizes from T's all the way to 2's for geese.....My favorite is 1 1/4oz 3in #1's. 1's are getting hard to find, at least by me. bluelund79
I still have some remnant Bismuth BB's that absolutely drop geese dead...When that runs out, I also had some great experience with Black Cloud BB as well. Dakota, not to be funny, but are the birds in real close-or are you pass shooting? I try to keep the shots as close as possible, preferably under 40 yards, those birds are just plain tough. Hope you continue the success though!
MNcrittergittr
Most of the time I shoot BB or BBB for geese. I like T and F too, but around here some of the loads can be hard to find. I've folded geese with 2 shot in a 20 gauge too, it all depends on your shot opportunities. But I prefer 12 gauge BB or BBB. I used to be 3 1/2'' crazy too, but now with the loads today you don't need to be. I shoot 3'' BB and BBB and fold honkers just fine. bluelund79
If they are that close Dakota, try changing your choke tube. You might be either too loose or too tight. If are using modified, try imp cyl, or vice versa. I don't use full chokes for any waterfowl...I did switch to Patternmaster this year, not for any reason other than to see what the hype is about, the short range I really didn't notice too big of an improvement, but on the long range tube out of the 1187, it made about a tighter pattern out to 40 yds. In my 870 Super Mag, it was the other way around, a more even pattern displacement with the short range tube...Experimentation was key-and expensive. Good luck.
