huntinsonovagun
I was watching a show on the Outdoor channel last week, and the host was in a wheel chair and didn't have must use of his arms/hands. I tell you, I would much rather see those type of guys go hunting on TV as an able-bodied person. This guy had to hunt ground level, had to have a special lever to help him fire his rifle, and also he had to make a 2nd shot and it was downhill, so he had to back his wheelchair up on a little log so he could aim down better, then his scope hits him in the nose!!! Talk about having it rough. Sometimes I take it for granted being able to climb trees, draw a bow, or heck, even walk!!! I think there should be more shows like this, instead of rich guys hunting from box stands on high fences on an open field, let disabled guys hunt on your shows!! You guys have my respect!! You are no different, and I try not to treat anyone different, but disabled people are special! I think the show I was watching was Outdoors Unlimited, of Unlimited Outdoors.....something like that. Norm Sauceman
Re: Physically challenged hunters have my respect!!! I too have had a dream for an outdoors show, highlighting the physically challenged folks and also the terminally ill. I have only been doing what I do since 1999, but I can tell you from that short time, I have seen determination and heart unmatched by any healthy human alive. I wish there was a way to get funding for this type of show, I KNOW it would be the best one out there...I even have the name for it as well. Hey, Maybe Realtree would like to hear my intro to it sometime...hey, I think that's the ticket!
huntinsonovagun
Re: Physically challenged hunters have my respect!!! Norm, anything I can do to help, let me know. I can't really think of anything I would be able to do....but if there is............ It would really be cool to have a show that would sponsor disabled hunters like that!!! robk
Re: Physically challenged hunters have my respect!!! i think norm is on the right track and that we that are disabled would appreciate it. i know norm is one great guy and has put his heart in the job of bringing the dhna which i am a member to the forefront where we can not only help ourselves but help other disabled hunters to have a chance at the hunt or fishing trip of a lifetime and maybe guys like michael waddell and even bill jordan and dave might want to get involved. norm is a great guy and has me wishing i couold do more and maybe i can help with pr to get people to see what dhna is all about thanks norm and hopefully we will be able to find people and shows who will put forth an effort to the cause rob k

huntinsonovagun
Re: Physically challenged hunters have my respect! [ QUOTE ] and some big time financial backing. [/ QUOTE ] I think that is the main problem........
Norm Sauceman
Re: Physically challenged hunters have my respect!!! Nope, I have all the cameras we need for now, they shoot 520 - 540 lines of resolution and are digital format. We've got that covered, we just need the backing for the hunts and such, travel, etc...My church will even help with producing the shows.. HuntingInMaine
Re: Physically challenged hunters have my respect!!! [ QUOTE ] We've got that covered, we just need the backing for the hunts and such, travel, etc [/ QUOTE ] I have been thinking about this, and funding shouldn't be a huge problem. I would be happy to help start writing letters to related companies and organizations that might contribute. I think you would first need a tv channel that will carry the show, after that it should be easy enough to get outfitters to donate hunts (free publicity for them!), that just leaves travel and equipment to be paid for. I just got done with a school playground fundraiser and it was much easier for me to get monies for the handicapped equipment than the other stuff. Is this going to be a non-profit type of group? If so, there are a lot of grants and such that can be applied for. Don't let the money thing scare you off from this project, I would be more concerned about finding a station to carry it, after that it should be pretty easy! PM me if you want some help, this is a great idea!!!

Washi
Re: Physically challenged hunters have my respect!!! I have had two outfitters offer me free hunts. It would be nice if they could get some publicity because they offered without thinking they would get any PR from it.
huntinsonovagun
Re: Physically challenged hunters have my respect!!! Washi, are you taking them up on the hunts? I really wish Norm was able, but with his recent surgery, I doubt he will be able this year to film. When will you be able to do these hunts? Hope we can get something worked out. I used to never come in here, but I found a new respect and hope I can help out some way or another. Hope to get this snowball rolling and getting bigger!! Washi
Re: Physically challenged hunters have my respect!!! I too am still healing after a surgery so I think I might have to wait until next year for the one in Southwest Missouri. I need to decide about the one closer to home here in Northeast Missouri. I also want to take my daughter and niece both hunting as this would be their first season. Tough decisions.
