PAarcher
So this morning I got in my stand nice and quiet didn't make a sound. After sitting a half hour a doe came in stopped 20 yds from me then THWACK but i didn't shoot! There was a hunter sitting 40 yds from my stand on the ground he entered from a different direction. I watched the arrow go about a foot over her back and smoked a tree. He didn't know I was there yet. The doe jumped and ran I stopped her about 20 yds then THWACK but my arrow hit it's mark. I got down and we talked he didn't know I had a stand set up and he offered to move. This went way better than I thought it would. I thought we would get into an arguement over who was going to hunt there. It worked out he helped me track the deer. This evening I climbed into the same stand and about a half hour this came walking in 5 yds from my tree. I'm only 5'7' 155lbs and this bear was well over twice my size. Interesting day to say the least. Sorry the pic's are blurry I took it from my phone 20ft up in a tree. Edited October 4, 2009 by PAarcher

PAarcher
Interesting story and pics. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully, you won't get crowded in anymore too! Yeah it was interesting there was never a dull moment. I'm just glad some people you run into aren't so friendly. I've had bad experiences in the past where the next time I went to climb in my treestand it was missing they cut the lock. There are some decent people out there on public land. We were the only 2 vehicles in the area that I could see it just so happend we ended up about 40 yds apart haha.
Stone Cold
There was an accident here in Illinois. Here is the article! Fairfield Man Dies in Hunting Accident WAYNE COUNTY- Illinois State Police are investigating the death of a Fairfield man killed in a hunting accident Thursday night. It was around 6:45 on Thursday evening when 20 yr. Old Aaron Long and his 16 yr. Old friend were hunting turkeys here down this path at Sam Dale Lake in rural Wayne County, but just minutes later, the 16 year old friend made a fatal mistake. Wayne County Sheriff Jim Hinkle says, "He believed he was shooting at a turkey, and after shooting he quickly realized that he had shot his friend." Hinkle says the 20 year old didn't live long after the shot. The arrow pierced Long in the left side of his back near his heart. Shortly after the accident his friend found a group of hunters and they called 9-1-1. The sheriff says because it was an accident- It's unlikely the young man will be charged, "It's just an extreme tragedy and this young man and the families of everybody involved is something they got to live with for the rest of their lives." Sheriff Hinkle adds that a hunting accident like this hasn't occurred in Wayne County in several years, but he recommends that no matter how old you are or how long you've been hunting, that you should take a hunters safety course to prevent accidents like this from happening. PAarcher
Great story - glad it worked out. Thanks! It was my first time hunting in PA. Just moved here from Michigan and it was a memorable first hunt. I think I'm going to have to buy a bear tag this year as well.
PAarcher
Everyone ever have any problems with black bears while hunting? I know obviously don't get between mama and her cubs. I waved my arms and said shoo scram get out of here bear. He was just curious and looked at me like I was wasting my time trying to get him out of my hunting spot haha. He ended up coming back that night this time in front of my stand.
WvBowhunterKE
Ive personally not had any problems with black bears in WV. Though I do know alot of people who hunt them, last bow season my father in law harvest a 317 pound black bear during the opening of bow season. He said there was no experience like it in his life. I tried putting a picture of it on here for you, not sure if it worked or not. But in the case that it did. The far left, Jerry Jones - Father in law Middle - Myself And right Duffer Claypool. The bear was harvested in Barbour County West Virginia.
rad_112176
Congrats on the doe. This just goes to show how easy it can be to hunt togather on state land if we are all true hunters. Once you know you have invaded someone elses area that they have a stand set up then you just move to find your own area. Glad to see it worked out. I had a guy shoot at a buck one time just 60yrds in front of me when i was getting ready to shoot. This was in MI so i was using shotgun. What i hadn't noticed was some yahoo that was 150 yrds away trying to sneak down the edge of a field and took the shot at that distance. Needless to say neither of us got him. PAarcher
I've had similar stories in Mi. There is just so many hunters. Most of which are weekend warriors and they will fling a slug at anything with horns no matter how far. I watched a guy shoot a buck in front of me that had one horn that might have went 3 inches thats it.
WvBowhunterKE
Come on now, Weekend Warriors? Honestly? Do You not realize more than 75% of the soldiers in Iraq right now are National Guard? Much like myself and my Battalion...

PAarcher
Come on now, Weekend Warriors? Honestly? Do You not realize more than 75% of the soldiers in Iraq right now are National Guard? Much like myself and my Battalion... I didn't mean to offend you man . . . If you didn't know weekend worriors is a term hunters use to describe the HUNTERS who you only encounter on the weekend who have the mind set if it's brown it's down. Or usually come walking in at about 7:30 or 8:00 am. after it's been light for an hour walking to their stand. If I offended you I'm sorry wasn't ment to be like that. WvBowhunterKE
Its all good, can honestly say I have never heard the term used in such a manner. At least not in WV, and it is my mistake for much such a dumb assumption. My appologies.
