jerdanmagic
Some of you may remember a post that I made about a buck that I needed a name for. He was really tall and the name "Miller" was suggested, due to the fact that he was living the high life. Well, the name stuck and on Friday morning at about 8:20, it was Miller Time!!! He came down the same trail that I shot last year's buck on. Miller stopped and I settled my pin at about 25 yards. I knew I had made a decent shot, but thought it was a bit far back. I got down and recovered my arrow and found good blood where he was standing, but also some digestive matter. I decided to back out and gave him several hours to expire. Upon coming back that afternoon, we found good blood for about 100 yards and then it disappeared. We continued our search on Friday for 6 hours and came up empty handed. We even took to the sky and searched by helicopter, but found nothing. I searched an additional 2 hours on Saturday and then I had to return home with nothing to show. I had the worst feeling in my stomach all day Friday and Saturday. Last night I decided that I would give it one more shot. My dad and I drove the hour and a half trip to where I hunt first thing this morning. Just like you would finish a story that you were writing, we parked the truck and walked up on where he lay dead, not 60 yards past where we had been tirelessly searching the days before. Miller had made it almost 500 yards from where he was shot! I am bummed that the meat has spoiled and his cape was in bad shape. But I can not tell you how relieved I am to put this buck to bed. I have not slept well at all the last 2 nights and have replayed the hunt 1,000 times in my head. You can really start to doubt yourself in a moment like this, but you just can't give up. So, without further a do, I present Mr. Miller!!!!

jerdanmagic
Thanks everyone! I do remember the pic of him! Congrats on the buck but sorry you didn't recover him until it was too late for the meat..... Did you still have to tag him or did you receive some type of salvage tag for him?? Yes, I tagged him. That is one neat buck! I think I would of mounted him pending if the cape was good with the situation! Oh, he will be mounted. I am taking him in tomorrow. I just have to buy another cape and he will be good to go. very cool! awesome buck! you still have the picture of him while he was alive, i never saw it and would love to if ya have it! Here he is back in July. He was showing up pretty often in the summer, then he disappeared in mid August. Friday was the first time he and the other bachelors have shown themselves since then. That cold front we got in Oklahoma really made the difference. The bucks were out and about!

jerdanmagic
Glad you found him,he is a dandee.Glad the name I suggested stuck with him.Now you are living the "high life". Thanks for the name Jesse! And yeah, I'm livin the high life. Don't think my feet have touched the ground yet! I spoke with several taxidermist and it's gonna be pretty expensive to get another cape and get a shoulder mount done. Plus, I'm kind of skeptical of having a deer that is not my deer mounted and on the wall. I think it would really bother me, especially if the new cape didn't really look like the deer I shot. With that said, I am going to do a European mount. I don't have one, so I'm pretty excited. I'm thinking about getting a Euro mount kit that Sasksheds makes. I think they are pretty dang cool. Thanks again everyone! Good luck and happy hunting.

Dakota
Congrats on an awesome bruiser! As far as the whole "another deer's cape", I shouldn't think that that should be too big of a deal. I'm still debating whether I want to have my antelope buck that I shot at Steve B.'s last month mounted or not. And if I do, I'll be using an extra cape because I was originally just planning on doing a euro mount myself and didn't keep the cape. :hammer1: Either way, that deer is going to look awesome on your wall!
