Another Rage story..

A friend of mine shot a buck this weekend with the Rage 2 blade...The buck took a step as the arrow was released, and he hit him to far back. When we checked the impact location,we found his arrow covered in blood, and a lot of stomach matter. The good part was that the Rage caused so much damage that the blood trail was easily followed, and the deer was recovered at 75 yards. We all strive to make perfect shots, but as bowhunters we all know things happen...it's good to see a broadhead perform the way it is supposed too. I love this product..

My brother shot a big buck two years ago with a rage 2-blade. He hit a branch and hit him way back with the arrow only making a hole on one side. The deer went a laid down and the middle of the corn field. When I rode up to pick him up the deer was laying with his eyes closed...Me and Casey stopped and said...oh no he aint dead. All the sudden he jumps up and take off across the cut corn stuble with half his intestines hanging out. I said just wait a hour or so and he can't make it. Went back to the cabin and ate lunch and came back to find him almost dead and unable to regain his feet on the other side of the field just inside the timber. The rage tore him up even thought it was a terrible shot. Good shot placement is better but even a bad one puts a hurtin on em with the Rages.

I have an honest question..............it seems that for every testimonial of good/complete penetration with a Rage head, there is a testimonial of poor/inadequate penetration. Though some of the poorly penetrating instances result in an eventually dead deer, many just mame and end up disgruntling the user. It seems to me that users report a lot of inadequate penetration yet are happy with the enterance hole. I always believed that good/complete penetration is the goal of each of our archery setups. What is your opinion?

It seems to me that everyone has had an experience with a Rage, or knows someone who has. Most of the stories are good!

I shot the biggest buck of my life high and back a couple years ago. If it wasn't for the insane cutting diameter, I would've never recovered him. The blade severed the arteries running along his spine and he dropped in 20 yds.

I look at it this way. A deers vitals are maybe 6 inches inside the animal depending on exactly where you are making the entrance. All you need is that much and you have yourself a dead deer. You don't need pass throughs to recover your animal.

I respect your opinion but certainly have to disagree on the need for arrow penetration. 6" of penetration is not a quick clean kill in most cases. I would not take a setup like that in the woods if I knew it was that inadequate. JMHO.

I had a guy at deer camp this past weekend shoot a deer with a Rage and couldn't find it. I went back with him and tracked it down in about 100 yds, the shot was far back.

It did it's job and put a 2 inch hole out the side. I'm not convinced they're for me though, I like my Stingers cut on contact.

Never used the rage. Thought about it but just never bought them. Right now I am on a single bevel kick based upon the reading I have been doing lately.

As for penetration I can see where 6" can be plenty. Especially when a deer runs and that arrow is moving around causing more hemorrhage.

The thing is though we owe it to the animal and ourselves to go afield as prepared as we can be. We should be using the best broadheads we can afford. I'm not advocating a certain brand, just saying if it's the best for you, and you can afford it, use it. Once you pick that "perfect" broadhead you should then build your arrow around that.

If you are doing things the right way you will be going afield with plenty of practice, with a good sharp broadhead, and an arrow of the appropriate weight to penetrate under worst case scenarios, not perfect scenarios.

If you are not getting pass throughs on those "perfectly placed" shots, what can you expect on a shoulder hit. I see so many shots on t.v. shows where the deer is hit broadside, and runs away with the arrow sticking out of him. That happens because the archer was most likely more concerned with how fast his arrow flies than how it will penetrate.

I am seriously considering Samurai Broadheads from Alaska Bowhunting. $79.99 for 3. Ouch.
