The_Kat
I like to think of myself as a pretty good hunter. I've been fortunate enough to harvest some pretty nice bucks ( none with bow ) and killed my fair share of does as well. Every year I at least tag one animal. I know what sign to look for, and I usually see deer on every setup I choose during the year. Lucky for me, I seem to draw in bucks in the areas I hunt when no one else sees them. For example, the public land we hunt at the lake.....no one hardly ever sees bucks. I've seen more bucks than does on that piece of property lol. Anyways, my point is this....during my hunting career I've had or at least had an oppurtunity for success. But up here in Ohio I am having an impossible time even seeing a deer let alone killing one. I can drive around all day and see them. I can go out to eat and see them out the window at the restraunt....yet for the life in me I can't seem to get one to come in on stand. Theres very little sign around here, plus the moon phase sux. I'm bout ready to admit defeat and head for Oklahoma. I sure hope things change in the next few days. I'm going to try a little more densely covered funnel tonight where I found more deer tracks, and trails than anywhere else. It's a bit dense, but at least they'll be close if they come in lol. Time will tell! If ya ever want a challenge in hunting, come hunt SE Ohio! Ok Ok, I'm done whining
layin on the smackdown
The one major thing you have going against you is the fact that you are not on your home turf. It can be difficult learning new properties, especially your first season on it, but that will change with time. Keep doing what you are doing and it will happen. The problem i have been having since i moved here last year, is that i see all kinds of bucks, not very many does, and the majority of the bucks i see i won't shoot...alot of 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old bucks, but very limited on what i see as mature bucks...at least until the end of the month. Good luck Kyle, keep at it.
PotashRLS
Deer are smart in the Midwest. You should try Wisconsin, it is just as hard. Lots of bowhunting pressure and other outdoor enthusiasts in the woods. Ohio is probably no different.
wtnhunt
Kind of similar to you I guess, have killed my fair share of deer, but just have not been able to get that first buck with the bow. Good luck in Ohio Kyle, stick with it you are sure to have things break in your favor soon.

camoman1
I know the feeling.....its seems none of my stands are in the right spot this year. Even the proven ones from years past arent really producing much. The majority of my stands are more set up for later in the season, but Ive never had this much trouble seeing deer before.... Had some crop rotation on the property that Im not used to dealing with also. Lot less corn in the direct area.
The_Kat
On a positive note I got permission to hunt a small 100 acre farm with a creek running through it. They have some corn and alot of beans growing there. Also has a nice lil woodlot running along the creek. Since the full moon is out again, I think I'm gonna stay in from the woods tonight and simply go driving around salt fork and then at last light cruise by the farm to see what I see over there. Tomorrow I will scout the place and hunt there tomorrow evening. The owner said he's seen three nice bucks in the area, but they've been hiding as of late. MCH
Everyone's been there Kyle. I've been out 5 times this year and haven't had a shooter anything walk by yet(one spike). I could easily get down but I'm not going to let myself go there. I've been hunting long enough to know that things will get better as they will with you. Suck it up. Keep your scent controlled and your butt still(not moving) in the stand and you'll be OK. Sometimes a lack of confidence can lower your "game" a little bit. Don't let that happen! ruttinbuc
Humbled all season so far, Kyle. Just not happening on ground i am very familiar with. I did have a shooter buck earlier, but didn't have a doe tag filled. Now it seems as if the deer have left the planet. I have seen a few but nothing compared to what I saw in the fields all summer. Being away on a hunt is tough as you have to figure it all out. By time you do that it is time to get home. Nothing easy about this deer hunting stuff. The mistake I made a few times on the road was worring about getting home. In hindsight I should have stayed that extra day or two to try and close the deal. Stay with it is all you can do. Straight Shooter
Been there and doen that Kyle. Deer hunting is one of the most humbling sports there is and especially bowhunting. However, I have to say I love Ohio and have great luck up there. I've taken 3 bucks over 110" with one of the being over 130". I've pasted more bucks up in Ohio the first 5 years I hunted than my whole hunting life prior. Just hang in there and it'll happen up there, they are out there. The bear is protected in florida, the other well If I can't put the arrow throught he boiler room I won't shoot. Ya I am humbled.
