quigleysharps4570
Any on here that still shoots a traditional rifle with blackpowder and patched roundball?
Hoosierbuck
I am not exclusively traditional, but I have been known to sling a round ball at a deer on occasion... HB

PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Living in PA I have had a lot of experience with a flintlock and round ball. We have a late flintlock deer season and till just a couple of years ago we had to use a round ball. I have several Investarms flintlocks that I shoot roundball from with 70 gr of 3F Goex. Lately I use an RMC Accusporter which I have two barrels for. One is a 1:48 twist and I have shot round ball and bore size conicals from it. The other barrel is a 1:28 twist that I shoot 300 gr Hornady xtps with 90 gr of 2F Goex. Even my inline is more traditional than most as I shoot a Knight Bighorn. This is an unmodified one so I can only ignite with either a #11 cap or a musket cap. I use 80 gr of 2F Goex and a 300 gr Hornady XTP in a harvester crush rib sabot. That load is deadly on a whitetail. Got a doe in Kansas 2 weeks ago with the Bighorn. She was head on to me at 40 yds and was ready to bolt so I took her at the base of the neck. That bullet traveled all the way to the rear leg and lodged just under the skin. In all that bullet traveled nearly 3 feet through that deer and had expanded from 45 cal to 66 cal in a near perfect mushroom and still weighed 291.6 grains. quigleysharps4570
Congrats on that doe. Whereabouts in Kansas?
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Quigley I usually hunt around the Topeka area. My daughter lives there and her husband like to hunt with a muzzleloader too and we have several private properties we hunt. We also have hunted along lake Perry as it is public property around the lake.
quigleysharps4570
I'm down on the Oklahoma line but would sure drive up there to shout at ya the next time you're in Kansas. I could bring the little longrifle and see about shooting some squirrels on that public land.
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Quigley this coming year My son-in-law and I are going to try area 1 which is in the NW Corner of Kansas where the big boy live. I have never been there but son-in-law has for mule deer. We will try to draw that is.
45-70cannon
I've shot nothing but patched round balls for the past, oh I'd say 40 odd years! I have one inline, and 8 side hammers and I like the side hammers the best. Everything shoots patched round balls (including the inline), but the favorite guns are TC Custom Hawken rifles one in flintlock and one in cap lock and the ol Lyman Grt Plains 54! Dakota
Got a CVA Mountain Stalker 1 in 48" twist. Shoots both conicals and patched round balls, but I've only ever shot TC Maxi-Ball 370 grain lubbed conicals. However, if I get the itch to extend my season and buy another freezer (it's been quite successful already ) I'm planning on taking it out and trying the patched round balls.
