doubleA
Finally found some Varget today and imediately started working a load up for the 308 Savage that's been stubborn with IMR 4895 and Reloder 15. I started well below listed max and findly things came together as I proceeded. Three five shot groups shot at 100 yds back to back. Average is under 1/2 moa with speed running at 2650fps

doubleA
Thanks Strut, I was beginning to think I would never find a 168 gr load for this thing. I think I am going to play with the OAL tomorrow.

doubleA
I got a chance to stretch it out to 400 yards today using the same load. Group was about 1moa right but still came out well under 1/2moa for the group. I think I am probably going to quit searching and keep this load. It took 8moa from a 100 yard zero. PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Great group If it were me I would not change a thing.
patriotoutlaw
Yep I worked up a load for my .308Win. with 42.5gr. of Varget and 168gr. Berger VLD's with the bullet seated .002 off the lands. It shoots 5 shot groups into one hole @ 100yds. no problem. I have to agree the .308 seems to like the Varget ALOT. Good shootin. Jeramie
I do believe it will get the job done! Nice shooting and sounds like a good round. What Primers are you using and are they the Mag Primers?
doubleA
Jeramie, I have prefered a match/BR primer for most of my handloading over the years. As you probably are aware of the shortages of some componets, I had to go to whatever is availible. Right now with the 308 I am using a plain Federal 210 primer as it does just as well as the match Federal 210M. I am starting the rethink this, for what I do I am not noticing any differnce. With the powder charges used in the 308, magnum primers are not needed.
Jeramie
Primers are getting fairly easy to find in this neck of the woods. That doesnt mean youll find exactly what youre looking for but you can find them. I was loading .243 with a CCI mag primer (IMR 4350) but ended up using a regular primer when the shortage hit. I didnt notice much of a difference at all. Just curious. Thanks.
doubleA
Shot it at 600 yds this evening, though only 3 shots it's sub 1/2 moa. :gun2:

David_218
Just got threw loading up some .308 cartridges with 45.0 grains of Varget with a Speer Mag-Tip 150 grain bullets in Win. Cases using CCI-LR BR Match primers. Haven't had a chance to test this load. Anyone else using the same as I am?? I have been using IMR-4064 (44.0/150 grain SPT Hornady bullets, but in the one .308 rifle (20" barrel" 1-in-12" twist) I own it doesn't shoot very well. My Browning A-Bolt shoots these very well though with it's 22" barrel length and the same rate-of-twist.
