PaBowhunter00
Due to me being in college, and not having a place to set up some permanent stands, I was thinking about getting the Summit Viper SS Ultimate ($399). I was told this stand is extremely well build and easy to climb, but the price is a little iffy. Anyone have some more in depth information on this stand, making it worth the buy? Or might have some cheaper substitutions that are still comparable to what I've heard so far about this stand?
Stinger-Hunter
the price seems hefty, but once you get in that baby - it is money well spent. I've used 3 or 4 different climbers and the Summit Viper SS rocks. You'll fall asleep in that thing, not that you would want to but that says something about the security, safety and overall comfort. You'll wish you spent an extra $150 when you get any other kind.
Hoyt03
if your mostly bowhunting out of it I would either get the summit open shot deluxe 215 at bowhunters, or get the viper ss(not ultimate) for 279. No need to get the decked out viper. This is my first year using the summit from my old loggy and it is rock solid to the tree, very quiet, and light at only 15 lbs (I got the open shot b.c I didn't like the bar in front of me)
The Kid
i have a summit viper and it only cost me 200 bucks brand new??? look around maybe well worth the price
maytom
I picked up their "Goliath" model of the Viper two seasons ago, love that stand!!! I believe that it ran me back then $289.00? Your paying extra for all the bells and whistles on yours. Check out the stripped down versions. The thing I love most is that padded front bar!!! It helps you out when climbing and mostly for security when standing!!!
PaBowhunter00
I know that the stripped down version of the 2009 Summit Viper SS is $279.00, but where I hunt cold and wind is an issue and was told that the upgraded seat ($69.99) is well worth getting. With just that added it's almost worth me spending the extra $40.00 for another $80.00 or so worth of accessories. The only thing that sucks is I'm going to need to buy the bow holder ($29.99) and gun holders ($29.99). I have the money to spend but just wanted to make sure that it's worth what I pay for it. From what people keep saying, I'm assuming I wont be disappointed.
Hoyt03
you won't be disappointed but since you said you were on a budget we figured that the plain old ss viper would get you up a tree and hunting. Yeah all the bells and whistles will be nice, but since you are a college kid you have to weigh the options.

fly
The open shot is great for long hikes but the viper is easier to climb with. I have both, the viper is better for longer hunts and the open shot is ideal for those 2-3 hour hunts with a long walk in. I bought the Viper Ultra (Cabelas exclusive). Big sale right now $229.00 and you get an E-Z hanger, foot rest, and monsterbuck video. I bought it and used it this past week. I just keep the seat section close to the foot section so when I stand my bow clears the bar easily. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21404-cat601662-cat280017_TGP&id=0057204418570a&navCount=0&podId=0057204&parentId=cat280017&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true
PaBowhunter00
Is there any difference between the Summit Viper Ultra and the Summit Viper SS?
Hoyt03
Is there any difference between the Summit Viper Ultra and the Summit Viper SS? I think just a bunch of accessories. Be careful not to get the viper dick's sporting goods sells that is 10 lbs heavier then the viper ss
