craig mack
Went out after work and seen a couple does, this one came into 30 yards. My arrow hit its mark and she only went 50 yards. The DNR aged her at 3.5 which I thought was older than I thought. She weighed 93#s when I dropped her off at the butcher.

redkneck
wtg bud. I would have thought a deer that age would typically be a good bit heavier up there in MI. What's an average mature doe weight there?

What's an average mature doe weight there? I would say right around 90-100 lbs (dressed) is avg. for Michigan. Its funny I hear alot of guys up hear say they shot a 150# doe. I just laugh because that is very uncommon around here. Unless you put it on the scale, you dont know. Alot of people think they are heavier than they really are. Alot of people think they are heavier than they really are. i dont know much about michigan bud, but it isn't uncommon around here to shoot does in the 115-130 mark. a 90# doe is normally a yearling, 110 usually a 1 1/2 old, and 115 and up 2 and older....I agree, 150 is pushin it, and i have only seen two break the 150 mark, but i have taken several in the 130 # range. My dad processes deer and owns a certified scale, so no, my scale isn't wrong. .. By the way, congrats on your doe, she is a good looking deer and looks mighty tastey!!!! redkneck
Not unlike body weights down here. Interesting, I would have thought they'd be heavier that far north. I did see one personally on scales a few years back that bumped dang close to 140, she was a big old fat, barren, feed trough hoggin, nanny. lol.... Most does I take will range from 80 to 110 lbs. ryan1990
I learned last year in my wildlife conservation class, when we were pullin jaws and aging deer, that there is absolutly no way to determine the age of a deer unless you pull the jaw. Anything else is just a guess. Whats to say its not a big 2 1/2 year old or a small 5 1/2 year old? Just like trying to guess the age of a human, you can get close most of the time but sometimes you will be surprised. If anyone is interested in the age of their deer look up online how to pull and age a jaw. Its indredibly easy and all you need are some branch trimmers and making a tool to pull is easy with a welder
