The 3rd annual OTPG Fall Blast-Off was held today at the range at the Strut10 Ranch. Most of the usual suspects showed up. A couple new friends joined in and a darned fine time was had by all. Weather was a tad on the chilly side and the constant wind added to the equation. But nobody appears to have frozen to death......although we, again, had to scrap the 600 yard shoot due to wind. We didn't have any problems entertaining ourselves at 100 and 300 yards, though. None at all.

OTPG calibers getting a workout today were 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm STW, .300 Win, Weatherby and WSM, .338 Win Mag, .375 Wby Mag and .416 Rem Mag. For the first time, free and clear of the pink nightie threat, lesser, standard calibers were enjoyed. We had .204 Ruger, .22 Hornet, .223 Rem, .25-06 Rem, .308 Win. and a .50 cal inline.

Snapper gets things under way by popping the 300 yard gong with his Sako .300 Win Mag.

"Hey!!! That was nothing!!!" sez Snapper after running a highly anticipated first round downrange from his newly acquired .416 Rem Mag Ruger #1.

I agree. Very pleasant rifle to shoot. It was a Ruger #1 kinda day. We had three of them in attendance: Snapper's .416 Rem Mag, FOTPG Doug's stainless/laminate 7-STW and Silverado Kid's recently finished custom job......a synthetic/blued .338 Win Mag with a slick fluted barrel.

Uncle John reaches for his tricked out black rifle. I believe everyone had at least one turn with this one. If you couldn't go 4 or 5 outta 5 ringing steel at 300 yards with this one, you had problems. Fun, fun gun!!

Uncle John goes over the finer points of his CZ .22 Hornet with Van, Doug and Adam.

FOTPG, Adam, going long with his 7mm Rem Mag.

Adam at the bench doing his thing......Van with a pretty Kimber 8400 in .300 WSM (on his knees) practicing his shots for a western mule deer trip.

No lack for spotters. Doug, Lil Strut10 and Silverado Kid call the shots.

Probably my favorite spot at the shoot..........chow line.

100_2082.jpg

Nothing fancy. Just Burgers, backstraps, kielbasa, dogs and maple sausages.

So everyone agreed today that it was a day well-spent.............burning massive quantities of gunpowder, eating good grillin', breathing fresh country air, checking the fall foliage and telling many lies. Before today, no one, to my knowledge, had ever gone away from an OTPG shooting event having not enjoyed a super time. The streak continues. If you missed it......SHAME ON YOU!!!!!! Make plans now to attend the 2010 Spring Lead Fling, due to happen somewheres around the first part of May. We'd love to let you in on the festivities.

Good times again!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't take many pics...but I'll see what I got and get them posted up.

On a future note....would more folks be interested in attending if one of these shoots were held on a Sat.?

There are many, many members within a few hours driving...we were discussing it and thought maybe more members would be interested if it were held on a Sat. Drive in on Sat. morning...shoot, eat, eat, shoot, shoot, eat etc...(no particular order). Maybe get a hotel room Sat. night and drive home Sun.?

Basically we would like to see a bigger "forums" turnout and would like input on what would make that happen!

BTW...good pics...except the one of me talking "before" I shot the .416...lol

I'd be interested in driving down from east of Syracuse if I could pitch a tent Saturday night...

I'd have to borrow someones Howitzer though...LOL

Oughta be able to find somewhere for you to pitch a tent. Everyone's always willing to let a feller have at it with whatever gun you want.

Being from Syracuse, you should be used to tenting with bears, right??
