Dad took the shots with his camera. Ill have to get the pics up later.

I went out all weekend, saw lots and lots of deer. Friday evening I had anywhere from 12-14 does come through inside of about 10 minutes. I was in my blind and they werent too crazy about it. They blew, busted me, and were out of there. Three split off and I tried to stalk them. I made it to within about 60 yards and jumped some teal off of a nearby pond. Game over. They watched and stomped at me for about 20 minutes and then took off.

I figured out the travel paths and what they were doing in the afternoons so I was ready when I got out. Last night I took the summit so I wouldnt get busted again. I picked a huge oak and went up to about 15'. I sat from about 3:30 to just before 5:00 and got the blackberry out and surfed Realtree for a while. About the time I put the blackberry in my pocket I hear movement behind me.

I stood and turned to see a fat doe feeding behind a downed tree roughly 21 yards away. She was feeding the right direction and would soon step clear of the brush. A few more steps and she cleared the brush and then turned straight into me. I was so locked into her I didnt see the other two deer standing behind the tree too. I finally noticed them when one picked up her head and looked around. Both were offering a broadside shot.

The last deer in still had its head down eating. It had a window just a little larger than a frisbee. I drew and sent an easton tipped with a 3-blade, 100grn muzzy through the opening. Instant blood. It was a good shot but maybe just a little high (or so I thought, it was actually perfect double lung). They bound off into the timber full speed ahead.

I was afraid it was high so I waited even though I saw white belly in a dry creek bed about 50 yards away within seconds. Squirrels went nuts too. I knew it was game over. Still, I didnt want to get down just in case.

About ten minutes pass and I hear something crunching off to the left side. In comes an amazing buck. I think he is a typical 10 but he came through pretty fast so I couldnt get a good look at him. He is probably 4 years and heavy both in rack and body. He came through at about 35 yards moving fast, not running but moving. I hit the grunt tube and it slowed him. He slipped into some heavy brush and watched for a few minutes and then finally moved on.

I took the cue and got out of the tree and went to my deer. To my dismay it was a fork horn! I really am sick about that. He was traveling with two does which is pretty odd. They are not in Rut here right now so I cant figure out why he was with the does. I actually picked him out of the three because his head was down and I knew he wouldnt see me draw.

I moved out into the field to get the 4 wheeler and as soon as I did there stood a fat doe about 50 yards away feeding up the fence line. She was headed right to me but I didnt want to press my luck. I went on to the 4 wheeler, was met by my brother, and we hauled him out.

He dressed at 85lbs so he wasnt small for this area. He actually had a decently heavy body. He should be good eating. Ill get pics up asap.

This is going to be a Really, Really good season. Im hopeing the cold brings the rut soon and HARD. I want that big boy. I never spooked him so I think he will likely still be in the area!
