redkneck
Who knows the circumstances, but kids of that age should be educated to the point you don't have to worry about such things when you need to leave.
Texan_Til_I_Die
No kidding. By the age of 12 I was no more likely to shoot someone accidentally than I am now at age 50. Sounds to me like the 12 year old hadn't spent enough time with a gun in his hands to develop the proper skills and safety techniques. Parents, you should know whether or not to trust your kids with weapons in the house. If not, then keep them (the weapons, not the kids) locked away. Hiding a weapon won't work, the kids will ALWAYS find it.
fly
Too sad! I taught my kids gun safety at 6 years of age. I also keep my guns locked up.

EXACTLY!...Horrible, sad story, but you hit the nail right on the head there.
